I like this view because I will be able to tell right away if the boom falls off.

Blender,

What's the tail boom mounted camera used for?
It obviously cost a fortune to install but what is the actual purpose of it??

cheers

Great way to make sure you put the fuel cap back on. Probably cheaper, too!
Also helpful for checking the airflow characteristics as the ballast vomits out the window.

A few of the tour operators have them installed , I guess some are recording on 3 or 4 cameras at once so you can get a pretty slick memory of your trip . If I recall correctly we installed some machines with cameras on tail ,just below RH door and a fish eye on the roof to capture the passengers . Check out Geneva's web site they have several STC's

For the system I am familiar with.

Cal if you are out there is Jack still about ?.

widgeon: been along time since hawaii, quite sure jack is still going strong. air maui and blue have camera setups as does maverick.
with regards to eng ships, the lipstick cam mounted to the tip of the horizontal also is an effective method to promote the station logo on the side of the tail.
you are correct geneva has them stc'd

Victor Two,

The tail mounted camera is there just to give the TV viewers another angle. No particular purpose at least on this ship.

Now in 3 months ago I attended Agusta 109E factory training in Philadelphia, at the same facility they had six of the most incredible A109E helicopters that were to be delivered for offshore work, they had every extra you can imagine, they had this nosemounted camera used so that you could see further when visibility is limted, loudspeakers, astronautics avionics, and a TAIL MOUNTED camera so that the pilot could watch what was going on around the helicopter, check the baggage compartment, etc. Beautiful helicopters.

I've always thought an external camera would be useful for slinging

From the camera's point of view, won't it be the fuselage falling off?

to be pedantic , it would appear to the boom as if the fuselage was falling up. MG I was born less than a mile from Woodvale.

Not sure if that's something to boast about, or keep quiet about.
