Thanks for that Rev.

Yes I did type in the url http://www.johannurmi.com/ just out of interest.

Thank goodness for Sky+ and re-runs of Inspector Morse, as Mrs Sid would have liked me to explain that one!!

Now what do I do?

Tools...Internet Options...Clear History, I believe!!! (well in a mo' anyway!!!)

It's very sad that so many people around us just are looking for the negative in each and everything that comes their way.
Maybe it's because their spirit has left them, who knows?
I know Johan very well and he is one of the most trusting people that I've met in California the only thing this guy is trying to do is make this world a better place, I'm sure he would give $$$ away to help the poor if he was able too.
Let's face it folks, it ain't cheap to rent a helicopter not mention one that will fly fast and will fly around the globe.
Johan is trying to get this off the ground, just like any other organization that are walking or whatever for cancer and other diseases.
It might happen, and it might not but I wish him the best of luck.
Try to put your brains back in your head before judging and responding on something you don't have a clue about.
It's easy to drag someones name through the mudd, but be a man/ woman and either call him or face him with your questions and the proof will be right there.
You know the website of his school, there you will find his phone number and address.

Happy Holidays

Celtic Predator,

Johan is well aware of the contents of this discussion and has CHOSEN not to respond - had he done so then his views could be taken into consideration......

A lot of questions have been asked here that remain unanswered, and I for one would prefer to use my own cash to donate to a charity that I KNOW is genuine, rather than waste it on expensive phone calls to California.

Johan can air his views if he chooses right here, and they would be welcomed, I am sure there are also plenty more questions to be asked. If he chooses not to do so, then of course that is his right, but then any assumptions that people make, will only be based on the AVAILABLE information.

May I also refer you back to my comments on the first page...
Prejudices aside, and assuming this to be a genuine record attempt / charity fundraiser, then good luck to the team

And just how much funding are you putting into the venture then, knowing Johan well and respecting his intentions?

Perhaps you can also give us some idea of how many students USA Academy has successfully trained in 2005, and what aircraft it actually owns. Been interestingly quiet since I raised the issue.

As Coco says, there has been precious little information available - even on Johan's own web site - to inspire any confidence. We've all been waiting for any pertinent facts for a long time.

Angel A Christmas Tale

Once upon a time a lowly pilot ( who called himself a CFI - which in Murrietta, California means “Complete Fu*&!ng Idiot” ) - had a dream.

He dreamt that he could make something of his life and become a World Record holder,
by flying around the World in a helicopter in the fastest time.

His name was Joseph ( which in Swedish is “Johan” ).
He had tried something along these lines before and failed.
After the last attempt he had no money, no suitable helicopter and not many friends to call upon.
He needed inspiration.

Far off in the distant skies Joseph saw a star shining brighter than all the others - it seemed to be beckoning him.
He had an idea - somewhere in the distant past he remembered a story, where miracles could come true.
It would soon be Christmas so he would announce that he had been “Born again” and would use Christianity to help achieve his goal.
The star was his sign and he would follow his dream no matter what.

Mary ( which in Swedish is “Monica” ) - Joseph’s partner, wasn’t so impressed -
“That’s not a sign….. it’s bloody global warming …..” she was heard muttering.

She didn’t really fancy the risk of getting involved in this immaculate conception and thought it best to let Joseph sort this baby out himself.

Joseph went off to seek out 3 wise men for advice.
He could not afford to undertake such a massive venture without serious financial backing -
and while he could do without the Frankincense and Myrrh,
the Gold would come in real handy he thought.

Sadly, being in South California there were no Wise Men to be found,
so instead he had to settle for an out of work, long haired individual
by the name of Mikael ( Swedish for Mikael ).

Together they worked and hatched their cunning plan.

Joseph decided that if he kept pushing the Christianity angle,
then God almighty would answer all his prayers,
and he would have nothing to fear.

Knowing that he wouldn’t get very far with his own selfish plan,
he announced to the world that he would carry out the epic adventure for a CHRISTIAN CHARITY,
and this would benefit thousands of poor, hungry, frozen children,
but thought it best not to mention to his potential sponsors
that he had set himself up as the President of the “Charity”.

Joseph was in two minds, no make that three, on what to call the new “Charity”.
Would it be “The Christian Foundation for Underprivileged Children”,
or “The Christian Foundation for Unprivileged Children”,
or the “Christian Foundation for Starving Children” ? -
“What the heck” he thought,
“I’m gonna get some cash whoever the suckers send it to,
and that’s all that matters.”
Thousands, if not millions of dollars would be raised for the Charity –
the good folk of California and around the world would love to donate to such a worthy cause.

Joseph’s next decision was transport.

He just couldn’t decide whether to buy a Robinson R44, AS350, Bell Jet Ranger, or a Gazelle.
If only they made a helicopter called “Donkey” it might add more credence to his biblical adventure -
He was well on his way to making an ass of himself.

All he needed now, was to convince lots of people to give him lots of cash,
so he promised that 70% of every cent donated would go the “Charity”.
He even promised that all donations would be tax deductible !

And verily it came to pass that Joseph had conned enough people, sorry, had found enough sponsors,
to pay for his new helicopter, fuel, spare parts, mechanics, landing fees, salary,
food for the journey, drinks for the journey, drinks for the stop-overs,
drinks for the return journey, drinks for the celebrations,
and some spare drinks in case they ran out.

“The sound of Joseph’s twin turbine Triumph could be heard for miles around”.

Relying heavily on God Almighty to keep an eye on things,
Joseph really believed that his scheme would work.
Sadly he had forgotten that the Lord Almighty is omnipresent, and knew exactly what he was up to.
God was NOT impressed.

No sooner had they set off than the sky began to darken.
Joseph had been blinded by the light from the bright star and his dream.

That very morning God had been chatting with his old pal King Herod
( Swedish for Bill Lockyear ) – the official collector of taxes.

King H. confirmed that Joseph was a very naughty boy and was in breach of California State Law.
The Law requires that all such “Charities” are registered with the District Attorneys Office,
and there was no record of the “Charity” in any of its 3 names recorded on the register.
California State Register of Charities
Neither God or King Herod wanted anything more to do with the scam -
Imagine how embarrassing it would be if God were cited in a multi million dollar law suit,
or when all those tax claims were rejected.

It was time for God to put an end to the use of His name in such a blasphemous way.

“Mayday - Mayday - we’re going down” cried Joseph….

“Control - , Joseph - I copy your Mayday - how many souls on board ?”

“How many what on board ?”

“Control - Joseph, Souls sir, how many souls on board ?”

“Aaaaaahh - souls - that’s me, a co-pilot and a couple of others.”

“Control - Joseph - copy that - One aaaahh-soul and 3 passengers.”

The relevance of this last picture ? - Just a pile of rotten Swedes

Oh well - looks like anyone that has the remotest connection with Johan has been frightened off -
Must be that bit about his "Charity" not being registered with the California District Attorney as required by California State Law

So, Johan, Mikael, and Celtic Predator ( wonder what that is in Swedish ? ) -
Here's wishing that you at least have a Happy, if not too prosperous New Year

.... and to anyone that has kept up with all this -
Please don't be put off donating to GENUINE childrens charities -
There are plenty of them - and they are often desperately in need of support -
Especially at this time of year.

My own charity of choice is a Childrens Hospice that provide respite care
for children with "life limiting" illnesses - ( not expected to survive to adulthood ).
They have 3 Hospices in my region and I know from speaking to their fundraising manager last week
that they are struggling financially.

Like everyone else they suffered with donations being diverted to the Tsunami appeal, which is understandable,
but any SCAM preying on folks generosity can also have an effect on genuine charities.

I won't be getting involved in any dubious ventures to further my own career,
on the pretense of raising funds for them, -
I'll just carry on doing my bit to help them, and I urge everyone to do the same.

Happy New Year,

Coconutty

Edited to amend list of those that don't want to be associated with Johan in a negative way.

"Oh well - looks like anyone that has the remotest connection with Johan has been frightened off."

Looks like it.
Could be for one or more of a variety of reasons.
But whatever the reason, they have, so you might think it's time to let the matter drop instead of flogging on when nobody wants to fight.

They are back !

For anyone that might still be interested in the previous saga, ( well I am ) it seems that the "World Record Helicopter Team" are back in action, planning somewhat of a lesser record breaking attempt - U.S coast to coast and back in a Kiowa OH-48 - as a "Practice" prior to attempting the ( previously flogged to death on Pprune ) round the world attempt !

No mention of any charity fundraising for this latest attempt

More details on their web site HERE

They now have a record !

Sorry folks but this just had to be ressurected.

According the their newly refurbished and updated Web Site : World Helicopter Record Team they have now achieved a US Coast to Coast record, and their "Dream" is still to achieve the Round the World in a helicopter record.

You MUST check out the link on their site to a News video interview with the man himself and his fellow team members.

Sponsorship seems to be coming along too :

From the original US $600 raised last year ( $400 by the pilot, and $100 each by a couple of other hangers-on ), this has now been boosted by another $100 ! Only $599,400 to go !
( But is it all still for the benefit that Children's charity - the one he wasa the "patron" of - He says so in his video clips, but now no reference to the "Foundation for Starving Children" that was all over the old web site ?? )

'You've gota be kidding'

This idea (scam) about flying round the world is just what we need to raise funds, not for all those starving kids in USA but to fund a much more worthy 'charity'.
The charity that I propose to establish will receive millions of donations from all of you who read and submit to this fine rumour network.
The charity would be audited by yourselves so that everything is above board and all funds raised would go to the benefit of the designers, engineers and research and developments teams including aircrews of the 'R88' programme.
'The R88 Charity' is born and this will ensure that the R88 hits the headlines in the most forceful way by flying round the world on it's first test flight.
Think of the wonderful photos that we could see as it circumnavigates the globe stopping in exotic places (raising funds at every stop).

OK I'm rambling on, but I though I'd donate my penny's worth to this scam. Oops sorry I mean worthy charity.

No it really is true - they got the record !

News 9 Report

This is a shortened version of the full interview ( Full details can be seen by clicking the "Media Player tab on This site ) but you should get the idea of how professional these guys are :

The guy with the shades is the infamous Johan Nurmi - Co-Director of the US Acadamy of Aviation, and founder of the cash strapped charity The Christian Foundation for Starving Children/.
The big chap is a student pilot ( A Chiropractor is real life ) , and the pilot at the time of the storm they were flying in is an ex army pilot.

After watching the video - Any comments on the conditions they were flying in from Kiowa pilots ( this is a restored ex-'Nam era bird although apparantly it never went there ) ???
