Has anyone given any thoughts to how the Bill of Human Rights might affect our FTLs?
Is it right that the CAA can say that aircrew can work 6 days out of 7 (60 hour week)for example when everyone else is limited to a 40 hour week (or is that 38?)

Tony Blairs your man for this, whatever answer you want , he will give, you wanna work 90 hrs good, please report to Cmdr Gordon Brown he will fill in the rel docu's. if you want to work the minima seek out
Comrade Prescot he will direct you to Copo Vaz between them you will get whatever you wish, on a lighter side, no one can make you work longer than you and I stress YOU want, but then Herr Blair my change his mind after 10 dyas.

Letsby,
I would think that if you want to make a case you had better have lots of savings put away, human rights or not!
The employer would probably say that if the FTL was in place when you signed the contract, then it stands as such. Probably easier to find another job than to put it through the courts.
(BTW, some of us are required to work a 70 hr / 7 day week).
ShyT.

Interesting comments – As an aside I have to say that our HR dept drafted a contract that stated we would work 40 hours a week in paragraph one and then stated that we would work a standard FTL in paragraph two. Which is what prompted the question – Local government employees all work 40 hours max but us pilot types get to work 60, yippee. I suspect our HR department wouldn’t know what an FTL was even if the PAOM hit them between the eyes! But is it legal?

Any of you with BALPA need to have a little chat with someone in the office.
The 'opt out' for transportation workers has just been tightened up in many areas. Just as one example: outstanding leave can no longer be bought back. Well worth looking into as even if you don't find much help with hours there will be many other areas of your contract where you can induce fear and loathing by knowing the law.

Letsby: Your company pays you to fill a position on a police FTL. If the FTL averages more than 40 hrs a week then you are working for the FTL holder for nothing for those hours. It's not the companies problem,it's the PAOC holders. If they require more than 40 hours then they should pay for it. If you choose to work more than 40 hours without question then nothing will change.
