The ubiquitous Bell 47 gets dubbed in everywhere, whether it's a death banana or a Jetranger. I guess it's the sound JoePublic expects a helicopter to make. I love the way the throttle is always chopped on the soundtrack with the aircraft in a 10 foot hover. Artistic licence? The worst case I ever came across with regard to technical inacurracy was when Wilbur Smith's hero in 'Hungry as the Sea' went and "stood between the pilots as CapeTown came into view".
Good trick in a S58T!

But then Wilbur Smith's usually excellent research often falls apart when it comes to aviation matters.
Remember the Hind (and other turbine aircraft) that ran on Avgas?
There are others that escape me for the moment...
But it's not supposed to be reality is it???

This is true but it's fun picking holes.
Another howler was 'bullet marks on the crankcase' of a JetRanger (James Clavell - "Whirlwind").
In the same book, the roughy toughy crew chief fixes an engine oil hose with chewing gum!
I know it were tough in Iran in the 70's but it wasn't that bad!
