Paint cost

Can anyone give me an indication of the reasonable cost to paint & repaint a B212 prior to positioning in SE Asia? single colour.

You need to be specific about the paint prep.
Will the old paint be stripped off? Or sand and paint over?
Depends on the condition/age of the old paint.

I painted helicopters in the 1970-80's. Back then about $10000... now I can't even guess, probably more than twice that.

Make sure the painter understands and has experience with helos, very easy to permanently damage the helo in numerous ways.

Be REAL careful about choosing an aviation painter. Simply going for the cheapest quote can lead to grief - they can sand the tops off rivets, use solvents that dissolve skins, paint over static vents and so on.

But above all, when you are talking paint, WHAT YOU PAY FOR IS WHAT YOU GET. If the only viewers are jungle bunnies, then a bit of orange peel skin won't matter.

We at Kimetsan Aerospace and Defence Coatings Ltd, a Scottish company, can provide a waterborne 2 pack D45-AMS MO (primer) and D45-AMS (top coat) FOB Ankara (where the R&D & manufacturing is carried out) for US$68.75/litre.

Recommended total dry film, (primer and top coat) 60 microns (2.5mil). Coating coverage at 20sq/m per litre at 25.4 microns (1mil)

If your 212 is for corporate work, suggest you use D45-AMS BJ at up to 160 microns dry film, but this is purely for aesthetic reasons,
and would not be recommended for commercial aircraft as it limits available payload.

The advantages:

High (95% transfer efficiency based on 2psi spray pressure)

No Toxic chemicals, No isocyanates in Component 'B', No chromates in the primer. and low VOCs - less than 120g/l - even for the top coat.

Virually indistructable, unlike high solid coatings that chip, crack and generally no longer protect the substrate that conventional coatings used to do. And because it is not packed with extenders to lower the VOCs, as with HS coatings, it is light weight.

Proven to perform on hundreds of F-16 radomes over the past 6 years and now being evaluated by a number US aerospace organisations while the material already has a number of NATO NSNs.

Requires very little maintainance as it is anti static and hyrophilic.

e-mail [email protected] for MSDS and additional information .

Wild Helicopter Artwork

I am interested in seeing some photos of really interesting Artwork/Designs on helicopters. Ones that really stand out. There must be some of you out there that have seen a bit of this.

Don't have a link (surely one of the S. African guys must do?) but the De Boers (Harry Oppenheimer) EC-155 has a pretty zany scheme.

Bell 206 paint schemes...

I am just about to start a cosmetic refurb of my 206 and need to decide upon a paint scheme. As I am completely undecided on what to implement, if anyone who has come across any 206's in paint schemes they thought were particularly interesting / attractive / complimentary, could they post a copy here to provide me with some inspiration?

Many thanks
