Sikorsky S-92: From Design to Operations
HC,
Has there been a change in management style that passed some of us by maybe?

SAS - Yes, I would say so. In the past we were run by accountants, now the UK Managing Director is a geologist, and the US CEO started out working offshore & worked his way up the oil industry. This brings a different perspective!

CEFOSKY......let's face it the Canadian press like a good story ,especially about the S92 and EH101 and the politics.
However there does seem to be a grain of truth as by now the first CH148s ought to be test flying the ASW systems if they were being delivered to the customer as per spec at the end of this year. They also have other mods, like a folding tail etc which doesn't seem to be airborne yet.
In fact Sikorsky has yet to announce any first flight of the CH148 variant to my knowledge.
A recent issue of the UK newsletter Helidata says that the first deliveries will actually be in trooping configuration to provide support in the Gulf and that these were due to arrive in early 2009....the magazine has been saying that consistently since last year in fact so I guess that could still happen ??

Shell S92 down in Brunei
Justhelicopters has a rumor that a Shell Brunei S92 has ditched. Does anyone have any news?
(S61 captain working in SE Asia, so naturally concerned)

According to this thread ( http://www.pprune.org/forums/showthr...163206&page=48 ) it was onshore and all were safe.

It was a gear box input and it lost all it's oil, a bit of talk at the moment.... if they had clearance to enter Malaysian airspace!! Sikorsky team have arrived to fix. Malaysian police have been sent it to guard the machine.
As the handling pilot involved, I'm clearly well placed to comment. On the other hand, as an employee of the operator, and with the investigation now in progress, it would be innapropriate. However, I'd like to correct some of the comments made above.
Not true (some minor loss)
Clearly we did: we were on a flight planned route
No, they have arrived to assist with the investigation: we're quite capable of fixing things ourselves, thanks.
Not very local. Precautionary is a term used for the lay public. RFM prescribes 'Land Immediately' with the symptoms present.

Greetings from "Just Down the Road from You -where the Cold Beer is".
Is it not amazing the stuff that the rumour mill produces when it is operating at high speed!
Thanks for posting what info you could.
Anyhow - congratulations on a job well done and some excellent CRM and PDM.
Cold beer by the pool here in WBGR at you convenience - Steve F. can co-ordinate.

212Man as always a precise, accurate reply. Well done, glad everything turned out ok.
I am glad it was not in the North Sea, night, and 50-60 knots of wind and 2 degrees.
I dont fly either the 225 or 92 and I dont want to start HC and NL bickering again but given the choice I would rather fly the a/c with a dry run capabilty to give me 30 minutes to find a rig ,boat, anything to land on unannounced if need be.

Had another look today and it's being dismantled and going to be under slung by a S64 skycrain later this week, will post some photos, can't at the moment as my connection speed is very very slow..
Is it just me.....or am I like most folks....a "30 Minute Run Dry guarantee" does not mean I believe it to be etched in stone and something to take to the bank.
Upon reaching the realization I am in the 30 minute and counting situation on the checklist....I would begin to look between my toes for a landing spot.....any landing spot....and checklist promises be darned!
The ramifications of it being a minute less than my ATA at a coffee shop.....argues for erring broadly on the side of caution. I reckon I am just getting to be an ol' scardy cat in my advancing years.

SAS -that is my point -the checklist said land immediately- I assume the 225 would say land within 30 minutes . I am with you - if there is somewhere to land ,even un-announced that is what I would do. I am surprised NL and HC dont have any comments! In the North Sea , night ,60 knots it could have been a disaster. Crashworthy fuel tanks or not.
