Like ALL things, flying helicopters has a degree of risk accosiated with it

I have lost 2 friends in helicopters and 4 friends in car accidents in the last 5 years. And only one of the heli accidents was mechanical failure.(One to many if you ask me)

Someone did tell me that a Jetranger is the safest thing flying with an engine. A bit dubious, but made-up statistics are just as good with the uninitiated

Helicopter are extremely safe and didn't even bother a mention. Your friend was misinformed.

Send Clowns - I believe the Jet Ranger claim is that it is the safest single engined light aircraft in the world... at least that was the line I got from an Ozzy pilot working on The Great Ocean Road. But the exact definition of the rather loose term "safest" wasn't given!

Bladestrike - Cheers, but no mention at all makes me suspicious... Still, cars came out on top anyway.

Keep the replies coming - this is all very enlightening...

Over the years I've noticed there are 2 types of pilots.

The first type reads the accident report and judges that the crew or the equipment were at fault,it'll never happen to me and that helicopters are safe.

The other type looks at the report and thinks, the crew were at fault (that could be me), the equipment was at fault ( that could my aircraft) and that helicopters are f***##g dangerous.

Of course there is the third type of pilot who never reads the accident reports and carries on blissfully unaware!!

75.225% of all statistics are bull!!!!!!
