Escape from Absolom
Just been watching the movie, Escape from Absolom on DVD and within the special features I found out that the movie was filmed in Northern Queensland in 1994.
As the movie contains footage of what I think is a Kamov Ka 32, I was wondering where this chopper came from and who flew it. That is of course if the chopper footage was actually shot in Australia!
John Eacott and Ned usually have their respective fingers on the pulse of all things helicopter in Oz.
Any assistance would help curb my inquisitive mind!

From what I can gather it would have been the KA32 that Hevli Lift had in Australia some time ago. It was there for use on the fires and heavy lift work but never really did much on the fires.
Apart from that machine cant really think of any other KA32s that have been in OZ.
Helmet Fire might be able to clarify this a little more.

The machine was Hevi Lift's..cannot recall who flew it ..would have been one of 5 or 6 western pilots that Hevi Lift normally had long-linning in PNG at the time. The 2nd pilot and flt engineer were both Russian.
I believe the location was Port Douglas, just north of Cairns. I could be wrong though!

But I can recall the Kamovs being here on a few occasions. There were two of them here, I think in the late 80s or early 90s for months with their blades off and the fuselages draped in canvas.
Then in the early 90s there was one which, I think initially did high tension power pylon placements on the south side of cairns and then I'm sure they also used them later to place the pylons for the Kuranda Skyrail cable way. I think that was around the time your movie was being made.
Columbia Helicopters also had a BV 105 that dropped in from PNG late 90s for a while.
I haven't seen any Kamovs here for a long time now.

Radio Operator got to play a part in last bit.

well..how do I explain it...it's just that bloody cold for that bloody long

ps. true story..wife won a turkey in a raffle at work..couldn't make room in the freezer so I stored it on the backseat of the car for about 2 months (sort of forgot about it), gave it away after that with warning attached..apparently it was still good eating with no side affects (that I know off).
Realstically you could probably get away with it for 4 months out here..assuming it doesn't get any direct sunlight...6 just sounds better.
It's -32 C at the moment..getting close to RFM limit on the 76.
