Is the B737NG doomed?

Yesterday I had no TE flaps on the NG. As per the NNC checklist you can lose VS or VNAV. We did.

Given the increasing lack of ILS's and overall movement to RNAV/RNP approaches globally, is the aircraft now unfit to fly?

We luckily had good weather and got visual. I am not sure how you would do it next time with worst weather.

Thanks

You could do an SRA which is also a NPA, and you could use the VSI together with the skills you learned when you did your IR - not much fun with no TE Flap but should be possible. Maybe we should be doing this in the recurrent training.

I am just surprised that it can now get certification now given for example I think EASA and Europe want rid of ILS's in the new ten years.

Iyt was super high workload. Vapp was 181kts

I'm not sure why you think the airplane would be unfit to fly. Aircraft certification, airport certification, and navigation certification are very different things. Just because you've lost VNAV PTH does not mean you've lost LNAV. In the worst-case scenario, fly the approach in LVL CHG or CWS Pitch, setting the altitude for the next waypoint. More work, but certainly not worth losing certification over.

As far as I know they aren't so keen on that anymore.
