I'm not sure why you think the airplane would be unfit to fly. Aircraft certification, airport certification, and navigation certification are very different things. Just because you've lost VNAV PTH does not mean you've lost LNAV. In the worst-case scenario, fly the approach in LVL CHG or CWS Pitch, setting the altitude for the next waypoint. More work, but certainly not worth losing certification over.
