"Charle - Charlie as an acknowledgement in the Pacific region

When I was flying 737's 30 years ago in the Pacific region it was common to hear aircraft reply as an acknowledgement the phrase "Charlie, Charlie"
It sounded like really laid back R/T but it was used extensively.

Is that term still in use and where did it start? Was it primarily a military R/T and copied by airliners?

I still hear this term being used mostly in African airspace and also Asian airspace. Very rarely heard it being used in Europe. This link from a few years back gives a little more detail .....

CC, Communication Confirmed. Very familiar to naval aviators as it stems from the use of morse code and signal flags aboard ship.

I must admit I used it many times myself, particularly on H.F.

I have heard it in the more obscure areas of Europe/North Africa.

Reminds me of Australia and HF
