UK CAA WEBSITE

When trying to open "Favourite Destinations shortcuts (ie Check ATOL, Publications, Publications, G-INFO) the following appears:

"The CAA website has had a significant restructure of the content and of the site navigation.

Where possible, the bookmarks that you may have to the site, have been retained but, inevitably there will be some changes that have resulted in the removal or relocation of some of the pages. The new site structure provides both the CAA and the users greater opportunities to produce and publish content that is more effective for the future.

The page you have requested does not exist. To try and locate the information your require, please use the 'Search' at the top right of this screen."

Sounds to me like it was an attempt at an upgrade. For the computer challenged fraternity (including me) it was previously a simple exercise to use the shortcuts. No longer the case. I tried recently to find a CAP only to find that the first option told me that the CAP had been cancelled. Not the case, further search revealed that it was current, alive and well!

What is happening? Why is the CAA apparently going backwards, don't they have Safety and Quality Management Systems to work by?

Hmmm.....I've just been looking for an IN and the site looks quite similar, but the functionality seems much improved and extremely fast, based on a short time in the Airworthiness area, at least. The INs were only found by using the Search function, but that took me to the list in the blink of a rheumy eye.

I confess to expecting it to be a dog's breakfast, like much of what the UK CAA does these days, but it isn't.

As the lowering of service standards at the CAA continues to vary indirectly with increases in the extortionate sums charged for the said services, it's good to have at least one thing to praise.

But around £350 for a simple licence renewal with no changes of substance, and a period of 30 - 40 working days to turn it round is taking the p**s.

Question

Q. What have the UK government and the IT profession got in common?

A. A very expensive taxpayer-funded disaster in the making!

Anyway, somewhere in these pages the Belgrano has been described as an EASA local office.

How long before it is sold off and becomes another, rather quirky, Premier Inn, to serve the passengers using the remotely piloted vehicles just round the aviation evolution corner?
