Age 60 Rule...?
I'd appreciate any information on the Age 60 Rule within the JAA member States and the FAA.
Can a UK ATPL holder (obove 60 years of age) still be PIC of a B747, if he is based, for example, in Spain, flying on a register other than the UK's?
If so, can he fly said aircraft to, for example, LHR or JFK for that matter?
What other implications are there to this rule?
Thanks.

I have just asked a similar question of the BALPA office in Gatwick, concerning the restrictions on over 60s flying in France. The answer seem to lie with the fact that France is currently still enforcing the ICAO rules, i.e. no over 60s Commanders. Once everybody is LEGALLY required to follow the JAA rules then over 60 will become permitted, as it currently is in UK, which has changed to JAA(ahead of time as usual) But as the employment lobby is strong in France do not hold your breath! As to operating Spain to UK- if you can avoid French airspace I understand there is no problem. Similarily I don't think the Atlantic is restricted. (My 737 won't go that far so that's a guess!) I too would be interested in a more authoritative answer if any one has one
