Post British Midland LHR base (or not) question

If I was LHR-based but living near XYZ (other base) and had stated a "joining and terminating" preference for XYZ - could I write my own tickets (at the airline's expense) for travel to/from LHR, so that I might, for example:

1. Do a standby duty at LHR

2. Do any duty which started/finished at LHR

3. Go to the simulator at LHR

...bearing in mind of course that my base would be LHR. (Just curious...heard you have two F/O's who might be unnecessarily eating into your operating profits...)

Question

Flapless is right on all counts, also join and terminate rosters will get you nowhere.

But what exactly is meant by your comment in brackets?

Confused Justin.
