Terrain Pb On A320
Hey guys,,,
I was wondering if you press the Terrain PB below the FCU does send any radiations or returns like any other radar or its a built in FMGC database and the terrain drawings on ND are just a fixed picture?
Please provide fcom source if possible thanks!
Cheers

The TERR ON ND pb simply superimposes a terrain picture from the EGPWS database on the ND, based on the aircraft current position. No radar is used, and the exact representation will depend on the particular fit of EGPWS.
Any terrain displayed sweeps on the ND from centre outwards to avoid confusion with weather radar returns, which sweep from side to side and cannot be displayed at the same time as terrain.
See this YouTube vid for an example of the presentation of a typical Airbus TERR ON ND display.
The FCOM reference will depend on the operator - but you may find some references around 1.31.45 (Indications on ND) and 1.34.70 (GPWS).
