blame the french,

BR - Brume : Mist
BC - Bancs : Patches
MI - Mince : Thin (Shallow)
GR - Grele : Hail

I thought BR was from the French word 'Brouillard' which is Mist / Fog in French

These are all ATPL exam favourites. Remember VCFG whic is 'Fog in the vicinity'

Vicinity being within a radius of 8 km from the airport but not at the airport itself.
