Datalink
With a previous thread about electronic loadsheets in this section, I merely wanted to ask a few questions about the datalink equipment that allows such (I'd say pretty swank) automated document transferal.
1) As I'm studying A320 systems, I understand the system interface on the aircraft, but not the ground systems. Are electronic loadsheets and company messages sent from software on a P.C., similar to e-mail, as my ops manual suggests? Or does the load controller/ground staff have to use a specific, dedicated device?
2) Do operators using ACARS/Datalink see it as beneficial? Or do the disadvantages such as very late 'final' loadsheets causing holding and delays outweigh the benefits (see BA thread in this section)
3) Are there any operators who use this system at MAN? Or is it restricted to the real biggies like LHR,LGW and other big-jobs on the Continent?
Many thanks for your replies
