Not Current but need a job!

Hi.

I am hoping there are some "in the know" people out there that can help me.

I have 10000 hours. Command time in Modern Commercial Jet Equipment. "Overseas experience".
I am not able to get medical clearance to return to work because the Transport Doc thinks the cancer could return. I am cancer free now! I had an ICAO License, but can not get current in my country with out a valid medical.

Is there any Country/employer who would take me with out being current or having a valid license?

Your help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

not current

Surely, someone knows a person who might have some suggestions for me. ie, like what country to go and do a medical, air law test and flight test.

I am willing to go anywhere. I also really enjoy working as an expat. I have done it before. I have great experience.

thanks again.

Don't know about jobs but try asking the UK CAA if they would give you a JAA medical with your history. I guess you'd also need a JAA licence - I don't know what's involved in 'transferring', it's not really my area.

But the medical will be the first thing to clarify and, in my experience, the bods in the CAA are very helpful - you may not get the answer you want but I'm sure they'll take the trouble to try and give you an answer.

Suggestions

Hola Flipper -
xxx
The info about your present ICAO licence (country Canada or not...?), the type of aircraft ratings you have etc. is quite vague to give you some suggestions. If you are "cancer free" right now, I do not see why you cannot get a medical.

The most "civilized" medicals are, like it or not, in the USA. While their standards are as strict as any other ICAO medical standards, they are probably more lenient for cases like yours. A buddy of mine, pilot with United has regained a FAA 1st Class medical after heart surgery (triple bypass).

If you want to hold a licence again, do it with the FAA.
(1) Show your expired ICAO ATPL and log book -
(2) Pass the FAA ATPL written exam (some schools can prepare you in 3 days) US$300 -
(3) Take a FAA 1st Class Medical (US$200) -
(4) Take a type rating on the airplane you were previously current (i.e. $6,000 for B-737) -
All the above could be done within 3 weeks time.
xxx
Best of luck to you

Happy contrails

Thanks

I appreciate the responses.

The UK CAA is a definite no to my medical history.

Transport Canada says that there is a greater then 2 % chance of recurrence so they are not helping my getting current.

I was left seat on a 73ng.

The FAA is a direction I will look into.

Happy Landings.

I am a pilot, not a doctor...
To my opinion, a pilot medical certificate should not be given if potential "sudden incapacitation" is possible.
Call it heart attack, or inguinal hernia.
To my idea, a cancer case makes you sick, and worsens as time goes.
Are there cancer related "sudden incapacitations" ?
You should not fly if not "feeling well"... a cold or flu...
Up to you to ground yourself when your temperature is 40º...

Good luck again.
Do the FAA medical exam ASAP... so you will know.

Happy contrails
