I don't think any SQ pilots flew Concorde on the London to Singapore service, but the cabin crew were split 50/50 between BA and SQ.

Braniff had some 40 pilots rated on Concorde for their interchange with AF and BA between JFK and DFW
True, but it didn't last long. They had minimal training and never went supersonic.

To Spacecadet1

The simulator from Bristol Filton is now at Brooklands but is now static. I was lucky enough to have a go when it was at Filton and full motion.

Concorde pay

As an example LHR-JFK. Obviously they had to have an over ride or a much higher hourly rate than other (even larger) aircraft that flew the same routes with much longer block times.
Any pay schedules available?

They were all wet leased from BA, with the aeroplanes painted BA on one side, and SIA on the other. Chris Orlebar was a pleasure to work with, he was one of my colleagues at Gatwick on the 737 in the early 90s, and his PAs were famous. Most of us bought his book- in fact the standing joke was they were worth more without his signature as so many were floating around signed.

Last time I saw Chris, he looked about 90 years old. Bloody parkinsons I think. Poor sod.

West Coast,

They had a miniscule super-sonic allowance. All did it for the prestige, not the money.

The small Bay of Islands Aero Club situated in the far north of New Zealand can lay claim to an inordinate amount of flying experience amongst its members, with seven ex B-747 captains, one A-320 captain and yes we even have an ex BA Concord captain amongst our ranks. All of whom have discovered this delightful location to retire to.

Is there any chance it will ever fly again?

Forgive me if this is slightly off topic but is there any chance that Concorde will ever fly again (whether commercially or for fun)? I live in Liverpool and when I was young Concorde would fly over the city every year for the Grand National (it was almost as big a talking point as the steeplechase itself). Seems such a shame that technology has taken a step backwards...

You all seem to be quite knowledgable!!

Anyone know what happened to Norman Britton? I gave him a sporty high-speed approach to 27L one evening for which he slipped us a bottle of fizz..... which made for a convivial end to the shift!

1] I think you will find that there were 5 Braniff Concorde flight deck crews trained which equates to 10 pilots and 5 F/E who in Braniff's case were actually pilots. Three crews were trained at Toulouse and 2 crews were trained at Bristol

So that equates to 15 pilots rather than 40

2] No Singapore Airlines pilots were trained to fly Concorde and only G-BOAD was painted [ on it's left side ] in Singapore Airlines colours.

3]Norman Britton, usually known as the "Animal" is still around and like all of us getting older, but so I understand is still getting into trouble when ever he can.

4] As far as the joke about Concorde pilots "will always tell you" , I have found it to be the other way around with non Concorde pilots telling people at parties that they were Concorde pilots.

5] One last point the title is either Flighter Engineer or Engineer Officer, but definately not Flight Engineer Officer. Us old boys can get quite touchy you know

Heathrow Director,

You are quite correct, but as the years add up it is sometimes hard to get the eyes, brain and fingers working together.

Thanks for the correction though, from an ex Flight Engineer

........or Engineer Officer .........
even SENIOR Engineer Officer. ( I was on Brits, too. ) ( but not Concorde )

First trip on Strats, at the Nav. desk, when the R/O had been replaced by pilots, the Nav. was about to be replaced by pilots, ( of which I was one ) and the E/O's feared that they were next - correct, but it took over 30 years to achieve ( achieve ? certainly no achievement but you know what I mean ) and the S/E/O remarked to the E/O ( the Strat. carried 2 at times) that the pilots had forgotten to note the chocks off time - don't tell them !!

Happy days.
