Your airline fills in the forms, gets your references and gives you a pack to take to the airfield security office. It then takes around 30 mins for the paper work to be filled in, your photo taken and your badge to be issued.
Nothing to it.

hello.my experience with baa at lgw was not good.first time around with swissport i had to wait about 6 wks which was not to bad.however second time around with menzies was worse, lots of delays and bad communication with reference checks etc! in there defence there was alot of building contractors working at the airport last year which im sure slowed the process beyond normal time factors.hope it does not take to long.

Oh and that is WITH an appointment - so appointment 10AM turn up on time get seen about 1245
Those who are hacked off with this process should forward details to the Competition Commission who are currently doing the government enquiry into the breakup of BAA.
As the enquiry is primarily into the supply of airport services, write about the sheer waste of resources of handling companies, airlines, etc, trying to work efficiently and effectively at the airport, but hamstung by BAA's incompetently organised bureaucracy.

TOOK ME 5 MONTHS AT ABZ TO GET MY AIRSIDE PASS, FIRST DISCLOSURE RAN OUT, HAD TO PAY FOR A 2ND ONE. ALSO, I'D BEEN SELF EMPLOYED PREVIOUSLY FOR 5 YEARS AND THEY WEREN'T HAPPY WITH LETTER FROM HM REVENUE AND CUSTOMS, THEY WANTED LETTER FROM ACCOUNTANT AS WELL. WOULD HAVE THOUGHT HER MAJESTY WOULD BE THE FINAL WORD ON MY EMPLOYMENT HISTORY.

Give me some hope then. Too be honest not impressed with it all. When I think about disclosure Scotland and how many people who aren't from the UK apply for it, of course it comes back clean!!
I'm not worried about my CRC I know I have been good boy.

It is not a quick process but depends on whether your references reply quickly or not, how good your company is at doing the paperwork and then how long it takes BAA to process and check your references.
I know people that have waited 2-3 weeks and some that have waited for nearly a year depending on many factors
Good luck
