Saab 340/2000?

Is there any point in putting my money on a rating for a SAAB 340/2000? Is this a category of aircrafts on the way out or are they still going strong in the business?

Does anyone have any idea of what kind of money we're talking about for a type-rating on such an aircraft?

Best Regards
/Tim

I was rated on SF340 in 1992, with more than 1000 hrs on type, of wich more than half of them as pic. I never got any job offer on this type afterwards..
Buying the rating with no experience? I do not see the point. Check who `s operating it.
Good luck.

There is a company very close to where I live that flies commercial traffic with 340's for SAAB Automobile, I'm hoping to get some kind of job with that airline... but I can't find any prices anywhere...

What do you think of the plane in general?

saab 340 and 2000 are great machines but most people claim that the prop-fear is what kept it from being a real "success". It's an absolutely great machine but the pax who aren't very "smart" prefered jet engines instead of props according to what i've heard but it makes sense.

If you're thinking about that åland-airline or skyways you're about to make a bad deal if you go ahead and fund your own type-rating without a job-guarantee, the aviation business in sweden isn't exactly booming neither is skyways and the other operators of the saab-machines.

and the saab ratings aren't cheap either compared to b737 or a320 wich would give you alot bigger chances of employment

I'm thinking more about Golden Air... I'm considering anything at the moment, but of course I'd like to spend as little of my own money as possible, thought that the 340 might have a cheap rating... =)

Have you heard anything from Golden Air?
I sent them an application but I think they maybe wanted ATPL license for the F/O positions??? And I haven't!
Anyway, they did not require you to have a 340 rating although it would be an advantage.

I forgot...

I think the rating is 177.000 SKR (SAS FA) excluding touch and goes. Pretty expensive without a job offer.

Question

I know there is a Czech company in city of Ostrava operating SF340A as cargo. Should be 4? planes in the fleet. And heared they hire. Unfortunatly it´s a long time I flew Saab´s so didn´t listen that carefuly. But maybe vie Czech CAA website everybody concerned could find the details about company and license requirements. Good luck F.S.

P.S.: Most pilot friendly plane I have ever flown - not that much of them/L-410,Saab-2000,EMB-120,B-737/.My salute to Sweedish people

You can thank Per Pellebergs (Chief SAAB test pilot during 340A cert.) for a lot of that pilot-friendly stuff.
