Airbus340FO,
I have forgotten more about computers and networking than most people learn in a lifetime. If that wireless uplink is active in flight it can be attacked and the person could do it from their seat. No need to make it to the EE bay.
As far as the GPS, anyone can buy a GPS scrambler for about 100 bucks off the internet and it is about as small as a pack of cigarrets and looks like a walkman. Easily gotten on a plane through security. So no GPS with that thing on. But, if a person could hack into the system they could also probably shut off the GPS feed to the flight deck anyway as well as anything else. Imagine being at 500 ft over a city and the hacker send the shutdown signal to all the engines.
I don't fly commercially, but next time I am at Alteon flying the 777 sim I will think about your comments on flying on a modern aircraft. Thats going to be in about 3 hours here.

If you are indeed as literate in modern aircraft systems as you say you are, you would understand that there is no such thing as a "the system" for hackers to "hack" into.
As has been explained before, the EFB system and the various aircraft controls are separate systems, down the the level that the different wirings are simply not connected.
So stop scaremongering and go defend your 747-8 in the other thread.

yeah Ive been wondering about the bulbus bits also, you get one each if that makes any difference?!?!!?
but im wondering, during the changes from the 340 to the 380 has the rate controll from the "joy" stick stayed also?
not sure if they have moved on to the boeing system or have stuck with the rate of change inputs so that conversaion is quicker?! if anyone out there is currently rated(Im so jealous ) it would be much appretiated.
Im pretty sure its the microscopic thing top middle of the picture. not really much need for one of those till you get hit by an EMP though i rekon! and im sure the boys (yes and girls im sure) at airbus have thought of a fail safe reboot for an emp hit anyway!

Hollywood spent 100 Million on securing their DVDs so they could not be copied and it took that 14 year old in Denmark about a week to crack it.
Give me 15 minutes and I will have burned you a copy.

T/Rs on the inboard engines only. Brakes are quite efficient.
wingman863, yep, had a look on board when it was up here in the big shed. The cocpit seems quite sparse to me. I am used to B747 and B767 cocpits. Certainly more roomier than both those B's.
Very very few C/Bs. aparenly, there are "computer" controlled. I didnt manage to get a look in the fwd equipment center which is above the cocpit..... must be pretty impressive though.

I belive the original concept for A380 was to do all soft ware up loads for system computer boxes via a vhf/satcom/WiFi link.
In stead of the Disc drive fitted to other Airbus and Boeing cockpits.
The plan was put on back burner when non of the companies asked to build the protection firewall would garantee their system considering the stakes and risks involved.
Does anyone have any new info on this? What its use? Melb airport A380 bays, Is this fitted?

Apparently my colleagues at LHR are laying on Wi-Fi at all the gates that the A380 will use. As the a/c comes within range, the Electronic Flight-Bag will update itself automatically and then the a/c will upload the latest changes in the entertainment system, new films etc.

There seems to be a system nowadays (real live data-link) whilst the aircraft is flying that sends all the relevent performance data to the ground for active monitoring, now I also believe via this system it is possible to interrogate different parts (ai electrical) for their functionings.
Is this purely an ask/response system?

Im surprised none of you realised the obvious! The computers are there so the pilots can play Flight Sim, duh! Practice the approach, landing etc etc The even have a joystick to use!
On a serious note about hackers gaining control of the system, I would be surprised if there was a direct link between these PCs and the FMC which would allow the PC to manipulate flight data... although you never know.

Don't you know anything?
It's clear - they are independent radar domes for in-flight security. They monitor all cabin movement in the back end.
The CC wear transponders which will advise the FD that they will be requiring admission to serve coffee etc.
The tops of the domes can be unscrewed to use as cups for both pilots.
