Talking Electrics & Series / Parallel

Can some one please confirm the differences ?

I know it is simple but I have muddles it up !!!!

(A) When you connect i.e. batteries in series (as in a flashlight) you put + to - and so on. Then you add on the voltage.
(B) In parallel connection you keep the voltage of all the batteries but pump up the volume...so to speak.
