FAA ATP 80 conversion test to JAA?

dear all, if anyone can help me with this id much appreciate it. i currently have around 2000hrs in the 737-200 and am thinking of coming back to europe for family reasons. i was speaking to a friend of mine in the uk who told me that if i have 500hrs on type then im exempt from an mcc course and if i have 1500 hrs on type i am exempt from doing 14 writtens, just an 80 question conversion exam and a check ride. can anyone out there tell me how accurate this is. also i heard from another mate that if you have 3000hrs on type you get a national JAA licence but that its not necessaiy accepted by other member states unless you re-validate in those other countries. is any of this accurate??

Corklad,

It sounds about right in broad terms. The JAA makes the regs, and yet each member-state imposes its own little additional requirements. So if you want to know exactly what you have to do, get in touch with the Aviation Authority of the particular country you are planning to work in.

If it is the UK, www.caa.co.uk is a good sourse of info.

Good luck!

Spektor.

cheers for that. down loaded the lasors and after spending what seemed like an eternity i confirmed about 90%of what was said to me. it looks like if i get 3000hrs on type i get a validated uk/caa/jaa national licence that from my logic means i can fly G reg ac only...but if i goto say ireland i cant use that to fly EI reg, must get another validation from the IAA. (could be wrong here). as far as this 80 question conversion once you have 1500hrs on type is concerned i believe that this is an icelandic policy (possibly to do with air atlanta international guys wanting to swap for an icelandic JAA and getting on to air atlanta europe a/c) As iceland isnt in the EU and only uses jaa in conjunction with their own national licence i think this is how they get around it as once one jaa memeber (not eu state) has a jaa licence ever other jaa member has to accept it. this would seem a very smart move on their part. thing is, is this true/accurate inofrmation??? was talking to my mate and he says caa want to introduce similar scheme for guys with high hrs on type who want to come home and work..e.g cathay capts going to BA or Virgin. does anyone out there now how much of this is conjecture or plain old romour??
