Do you really think anybody here has any idea more than you yourself? At a rough guess, we are not talking here of 2800 fatalities. A few years ago, the IRA was engaged in this sort of activity, and life carried on and the UK economy soldiered on relatively unaffected. If you are asking on a purely financial global economy-wise basis how much effect it will have, I would say just like in those days very little. In humanitarian terms, it is incredibly sad and needlessly tragic, but that was not your concern.

How unbelievably insensitive on a morning like this. Two incomes from the airlines in this house and just at this moment we don't give a toss if we lose our shirts - we are just appalled at what's happened.
I hope you're not joining my lot.

Bunny,
I know you are concerned for your job but at a time when we still do not know the full facts of this incident, it might have been more tactful and respectful to have held off for a few days on this query.
Cheers

Myself I formally lost my job due to the attacks of 9/11, but that decision was luckily cancelled before it could go in effect, so therefore I only had some sleepless nights, but never actually stopped flying.
The main difference between 9/11 and now is that aviation is not involved. Therefore I see no need for people being increased fearful for flying and booking figures going down dramatically.

PS... I know how it feels to be on the edge of being fired. Although it could have been more tactfull to wait a few days with his concern, I also understand how human it is to think of an existential question of maybe losing your job.
My thoughts are mainly for the people & their families who were killed or injured, but I cannot deny that for a short moment I thought 'thank god it is not an airplane this time'.

Only effect so far is financial markets down and London transport at a standstill.
Remember that airlines appeared to use the attacks in the USA as a guise to push through changes that might have been difficult to do otherwise.

Buttface……..
You are so right, how wrong I am for thinking only about those in London today. Of course he must have had it so hard over the years trying to get an airline job. I will endeavor to try and contact as many people as I can who were put out today in some way in London and maybe we could organize a ‘Live Aid’ type concert for all those suffering trying to get a job in the airlines.
GET REAL!!!!!
With over 150 posts on pprune I feel you should know better…….Get back to flying your little light twin and flying with you head up your arse.

Be realistic chaps - we're all thinking of ourselves and our close ones in some way as a matter of course at the moment.
The danger lies more in what our response will do - I for one hope that we - our country - shows honour and does not revert to reactionary responses.

We agree the initial post was a little untouchy, but typing is a weird medium. Maybe it sounded worse than in the intentions of the writer. Just give him a chance and let go, it's quite some minor issue to think about.

ALL RIGHT, ALL RIGHT!!!! mod, please delete this thread! I too get fed up with people slagging off others for wasting their reading time, despite the fact they obviously have time to reply!!! Bunny may have asked an innapropriate question, but can't anyone else just bite their lip and move on! G92, your comments to Buttline were just as innapropriate, if you do not know other users personally then don't insult them, it makes you look even more of a fool to those that do!

How about ID cards asap, shut the borders.
Then house to house searches to deport the alleged 1 million illegal immigrants and end of legal aid to the likes of Abel Hamza.
Of course non of this is PC, but we live in the real world, not the fantasy world of the feely touchy brigade.
Let me ask this----- tomorrow morning you are sitting on public transport in the UK. Sitting next to you is a foreign looking national who is looking distressed/pre-occupied. Do you think about changing seats?
Or do you confront him/her, risk upsetting them and search them?
In reality these extemists are non-descript and just blend in. They are the neighbour who always kept themselves to themselves.
No offence intended to the innocent, so don't take it that way.
On the other hand , all and every offence intended to the weak cowards who dare attack innocents. You have made a gross error.

Bunny's post might appear insensitive, but having suffered multiple redundancies I admit to early thoughts of job insecurity after the WTC disaster. I know for a fact that I was not alone! I am sure many people in the financial world are pondering the same question.

Ah well - not to let facts get in the way of a good reactionary story.
There's crap PC, and then there's the PC that is just fairness, justice, and removal of emotion from decisions. Otherwise we become no better than the enemy - and behave beyond the bounds of the law, creating Guantanamos and aggravating the long-term situation for short-term political capital.

It would benefit all if before typing vitriol remarks that you consider if it will benefit the thread which in all cases it will not
With regards to the differing figures on Illegal immigrants may be you should research facts before quoting figures.
Did you ever consider that the people responsible might have british passports? Or was it designed to incite a xenophobic response ?
