Myself I formally lost my job due to the attacks of 9/11, but that decision was luckily cancelled before it could go in effect, so therefore I only had some sleepless nights, but never actually stopped flying.
The main difference between 9/11 and now is that aviation is not involved. Therefore I see no need for people being increased fearful for flying and booking figures going down dramatically.

PS... I know how it feels to be on the edge of being fired. Although it could have been more tactfull to wait a few days with his concern, I also understand how human it is to think of an existential question of maybe losing your job.
My thoughts are mainly for the people & their families who were killed or injured, but I cannot deny that for a short moment I thought 'thank god it is not an airplane this time'.
