EDDM g/p u/s
Flew to MUC today, ended up landing 26R. Controller's instructions were something long the lines of "Hello, ILS 26R for you, no glidepath". Fine, so the other half read back "26R, Localiser only approach". The was then corrected to an "ILS approach, no glidepath" several times.
Question is, I am sure (by the sounds of his voice) that he was correct as per his book, but why isn't a LLZ/DME approach valid?

yep, had the same thing there a couple of days back.
Seems to me the way they say it is more prone to being misheard / clipped etc.
<shrug>
Maybe the controller was worried about confusion between localiser and locator?

Sorry - it's a bit offtopic:
How far away is it still possible to hear the voice with a more or less powerful handheld radio on the ground?
Do you have any idea for example for EDDM - ATIS, TWR, APP, ACC => 10 NM, 20 NM, 40NM south of the airport???
hear you on the frequency!

The reason that the llz/dme app is called an ils/gp inop is, that it is published that way in the german aip.
So atc can only clear you for a ils/gp inop.
I know that airline charts show an llz/dme app and it is of course the very same thing ,however we can only clear it by the name published.
