1. I can't remember exactly, I also recall them saying approx. 6 weeks-2 months for each stage and then in the final webinar I think one of the panel just restated that and then applied it starting in February. E.g. they've said they'll open applications sometime in February so 6-8 weeks from then takes you to roughly the end of March, 6-8 weeks for stage 2 then takes you roughly to mid-end May, 6-8 weeks from then takes you to July time.
2. I haven't read or heard any mention of physics tests, but I guess they reserve the right to change the process and/or not reveal everything about the later stages right now. That being said they do seem to have been fairly open about the overarching process, e.g. they've said there's the new "competency evaluation exercise" at stage 3, but haven't really said anything at all about what it is. They've reiterated in the webinars to really focus on stage 1 for now and you'll be given all the info you need for later stages if/when you get to it.

Thanks

1) on the dates, could I ask for clarification, was it a case that someone did mention those dates but you don't remember which webinar exactly or you applied the stage dates yourself?

Also, does anyone know if they're running this programme again in Autumn/Winter 25 or expect this to only be once year?

Hi everyone!

This is my first post. I loved reading all the messages from last year :)

What day do you think the applications will open?
From one of the webinars, Guy said it will be early February, it won't be on a weekend and it won't be on a Monday!

Thanks and good luck to everyone applying this year 😀

Hi everyone,

I was curious to know if most applicants this year have been involved in aviation for some time or pursued GCSEs/A-Levels/Degrees specifically for this career. Are there also applicants coming from completely different backgrounds, making a career switch into aviation? TIA

I presumed it would be 2nd week (week commencing 10th Feb) or 3rd week (w/c 17th Feb).

They mentioned it wouldn't come unannounced and there'd be time to prepare before it opens. Considering one hasn't heard anything yet...

So presume they were having/will have discussions with media, internal media to release information to ensure folk have time to prepare and then release. So I'd guess any time from 11th Feb onwards.

Can I be added to the group too! Unsure if I’m already in it!

DiveMaster 6th February 2025 18:30

Have they mentioned whether the stage 1 screening tests are all SHL or AON? Or which other assessment provider they're using? I'm aware that the checking test will be SHL, just wanted to double check the other 2 tests. The SHL calculation tests (Which they mentioned to practice with on their preparatory PDF) seems to just be getting familiar with your calculator, whereas the example questions are more GCSE level. Thanks and apologies if this has been mentioned before!

I got 10 GCSE's A's in Maths and Science and did A Levels in Maths and Chemistry. Although a long time ago now. Followed a career in management managing up to 100 people. Got made redundant in 2022. Retrained as a Lorry driver. Now learning to fly modular on my days off 2-3 times a week. Have my class 1 medical and dual UK/EU citizenship. Have done 12 hours and just gone solo. I will be applying for this but to get through it is like winning the lottery. It is more the guaranteed job at the end that appeals to me as I do have the funds for modular. I am 38 though they will most likely take one look at my C.V and throw it in the bin :D

Demonstrable passion for aviation

Hi guys, does anyone have any tips on the things I could talk about here. I have always been interested in flight and aircraft engineering but I am not sure what counts as demonstrable passion? I've been interested in the career but I couldn't really afford to do anything about it.
What action could I take now to demonstrate my passion?

Thanks!

Hey everyone,

I noticed yesterday that on the Speedbird website they have updated their preparation PowerPoint. It looks like they have changed the audio exercise so that it now includes briefing a colleague in addition to a passenger announcement. Does anyone know if this was previously mentioned? I don't remember or have any notes of them mentioning it on the webinar I watched.

Good spot NateJD,
I had the old version up so I was able to compare them. Here is the old and updated version.
It will be interesting to see how it happens this year.

Old PA
Passenger Announcement Exercise* - An activity where you record some audio, saying a passenger announcement. Answering short questions about customers and safety. If you reach this stage, more information will be provided to support your preparation. This method helps us learn how you communicate, as a pilot's communication style must be clear, relevant, and with customer and safety in mind.

New PA
Pilot Communication Activity - An activity where you record some audio, delivering a briefing to a colleague and a passenger announcement.

I hope this helps 😁
