These are the details outlined in the "job description"
  • Please note your invitation to the first test will be sent within two working days of submitting your application.
  • After being invited to a test, you will have a maximum of 2 calendar days to complete it (e.g. if you are invited on a Thursday, you have until 23:59 on Saturday to complete it)
  • After completing any of our 3 tests, you will receive an invitation to the next test within 24 hours of finishing the test module. Please wait for an update before contacting us to check the status of your application.
  • As long as you submit your application within the advertised dates (11th-21st February), you can continue with your online testing.
Hope this is helpful :)

Height

Does anyone know how strict they are with the height requirements? I am 156cm, 1cm shorter than the minimum height listed, I assume this means a no-go but just wanted to ask in case?

dcrowe 11th February 2025 17:40

I applied today and received invite to the online Situational Judgement assessment within a couple of hours of applying - in case anyone is interested in timelines :)

Ping a message in to one of the team. Safety margins exist for a reason, but when you're so close that standard shoes would likely take you over the threshold it's definitely worth an ask! It could be a blanket rule, but there may also be other considerations like sitting height / reach / leg length etc

Has anyone been able to join a whatsapp group for this years applications? It would be nice to connect with all of you

bluebell99 12th February 2025 00:26

What does it mean when they say you can redo stage one multiple times? Does that mean you can reapply through the whole application process again to reattempt stage one??

nerfgun 12th February 2025 05:57

Does anyone know what are the salary prospects after training is complete? I知 a 30 year old with a family and mortgage. We could probably manage the few years of training.

Also, what is the accommodation like during training? If I was to get the UK-based flight school & theory, is there an option to live with my partner nearby?

Ta, and good luck everyone!

How long do you get to complete them?

It is definitely worth sending the question to the recruitment team, but I suspect the answer will be no. They specifically state that if you are too tall, a functional check is possible, but too short does not specify that. You basically need to be able to have your seat at such a height that your eyes are positioned in the same place for everyone regardless of body height. From that same seat position, you then need to be able to apply full left or right pedal including full brake application on that pedal. You also need to be able to reach the overhead panel, and apply full forward thrust lever movement. These things could be possible even though you are too tall, but are far less likely to be possible if you are too short.

It was a long time ago now, but I remember going for my first medical as a successful cadet applicant. There was a very petite candidate at my medical. She had her hair in a French plait, and she had tears in her eyes as she was unbraiding her hair so they could measure her height precisely. Presumably she knew she was just below the minimum height and was afraid she was about to fail her medical. I do not know whether she was successful or not though, so it is definitely worth putting the question to the recruiters.

Good luck.

Let's say they run this scheme for 10 years.
If you are rejected within Stage 1 you can reapply each year for the 10 years - i.e. apply 10 times.
However, if you get to Stage 2 or beyond then you can only apply a maximum of three (?) times.
You CANNOT apply multiple times in a single year if you are rejected at Stage 1,

this was also going to be my question. Some other cadet schemes give you 5 days to complete each stage. I was going to apply this evening but if the tests have to be completed quickly I might wait until the weekend when I have more time.

For info, there is already a 112page thread on this scheme under the Professional Pilot Training sub-forum.

From a post there the timescales are:
These are the details outlined in the "job description"
  • Please note your invitation to the first test will be sent within two working days of submitting your application.
  • After being invited to a test, you will have a maximum of 2 calendar days to complete it (e.g. if you are invited on a Thursday, you have until 23:59 on Saturday to complete it)

Salary: hard to be sure. The written information still states 」34k salary but info we had during last years assessment days was that this has increased and there is also a flying hours based top up as well. I'm estimating 」45k total first year after training but this is just an estimate.

Accommodation: Either based in Skyborne's own accommodation or university halls in Cheltenham. Either way basically a room in a shared flat. There are videos on Skyborne social media which show off their accommodation.

The first 6months of ground school is very intense. Recruitment team was keen to stress that evening and weekend revision would be needed and to put everything else on hold. Expectation therefore is you stay in the accommodation to focus and also to collaborate and learn with peers. Weekends are opportunities to see family. That's the guidance/expectation - what it's like in practice I can't yet say.
