I would have thought that the cost of a renewal is relative to your own ability and amount of IFR flying post qualification to a large extent? When I was doing my initial IR I saw quite a few guys coming back to renew their IR's. The majority hadn't flown since getting the IR or had been VFR burning holes in the sky if they were in the fortunate position of having any spare cash left over to be able to keep current. It cost them a lot as the school was expecting them to be on top of SOP's etc. It certainly wasn't a tick in the box. Wouldn't have thought much change from £1k.

Not too far away from Derby is The Flight Centre at Half Penny Green (Wolverhampton) and they have an FNTPII. So long as you haven't let your IR expire (like I did – by like 2 weeks !!), then you can revalidate in the sim. If you let it expire you must renew in the twin. I found out the hard way !! That said, it was really nice to fly a twin again ;) and as a bonus I renewed my MEP rating as well. BTW - no ldg fees at Wolverhapmton for the ccts !! Double bonus !!

Talk to a guy called Malcolm on 01384-221456. You should be able to do it there without too much fuss !!

It is a revalidation as it hasn't expired yet, so was looking to do it a sim purely because of cost. Hiring a twin is getting more and more expensive.

I revalidated my IR in the sim a couple of weeks ago.
I hadn't flown any IFR since passing initial flight test.(1 year)
I did an hour in the sim as practice before the examiner came in to test me. This hour before the test was plenty of practice as the test itself went without a hitch. By the way, the hour sim session that i did in the morning all went really well too, and all procedures were done within limits and the only thing that needed a bit of practice was the EFATO, but thats not a problem. Just brush up on your checklist.
As far as cost went i paid in total 2 x hour sim=£300 and £100 to the examiner. £400 total. Bargain!
Also just to let you know that i did my MCC at The flight Centre in Wolverhampton which is a good set up with good instructors. No complaints

Last time went to Mike Bolton at Bournemouth, uses FNPT2 in European Aviation hangar. Very reasonable rates and real low key. Gave me a short sortie to get me familiar with the Bournemouth departure and approaches.
Would use him again if I have to renew it again myself.

I went to Aberporth in Wales, lovely place. FNPT2, Piper Seneca simulator. (+/- 450 GBP for 2 hours training and exam):ok:
