When is it the best month to visit Sydney, Australia?

Well, much study was done in Sydney re weather for the Olympics. It was decided that September is the go. So, I would suggest September.
Thunderies are reasonably predictable in Sydney. Usually they appear in the afternoon in Summer and or along a cold front (aka Southerly). Vis is generally pretty good if there is a high pressure system over NSW. May be a tad hazy but over all excellent.
It depends on what sort of flying you are looking at doing. However, September generally is the best month for most of Oz. You will get snow and ice if you head south (ie our snow season is peaking usually in Sept) but if you go either west or north the weather is beaut.
Good luck.

July August is Sydney's winter. It depends on whether a front (cold) has gone through for the temps. A stable high pressure system over Sydney in July August is fantastic. Great vis, temps 18-22 deg C. Now, if a cold front goes through, the usual convective cloud and low temps will happen. Around 14-17 deg and v/cold winds. (ok ok, it's not the UK winter but you know what I mean!!)
Oct Nov is quite variable with the weather. It can range from 20 deg C to 35 deg C. Quite active storm fronts come through in Nov as well. It is hard to predict the weather as you are in Spring then and the weather is a lot more unstable then. Late Nov is quite warm - assuming it is following the script! Vis ain't bad but again, it honestly depends. If there have been some bush fires around, the vis will be very poor.

In truth, it is hard to say. You may need to be flexible in your destinations. If you are then I would I would pick October. Earlier the better. July *can* be bad for cold stream weather. August usually gets very stong westerlies. November can get nasty weather in terms of active fronts. Actually, so can October but it isn't as hot.
Pop over to the Bureau of Meteorology site and have a rummage around there. I *think* it is www.bomw.gov.au
Good luck.

Hey Tarmach, you should be here now!
Apart from a few wet and windy days the weather over the past two months has been beautiful. Take today, for example, stable atmosphere, sunshine, clear sky, light winds, mild temperatures. Not bad considering we are just about at the winter solstice.
August tends to be the windy month, and springtime is when the weather becomes less predictable.
