ATPL studies
Hi ,
can anyone tell me if after passing the ATPL exams and gaining a CPL but not a Instrument Rating, whether I would have to retake all 14 exams if by the three year deadline I don't have 1500tt?
How long are they current for if you don't have the IR?
Finally I have enquired about a ATPL groundschool course at Oxford starting from the 26th August 2003-3rd April 2004, now does the second part of the exams follow on from the 3rd April, and if so how long does the exams take? One per day? How long is each paper?

If you don't get your IR within 3 years, you will have to re-take exams. I think you can just re-take the IR exams, you don't have to re-do the complete set, although I'm not 100% sure on that.
The 1500 hours is completely un-related, though - that's the requirement for the issue of a full ATPL, it's got nothing to do with getting an IR.
I don't know the details of Oxford's course, but the exams follow the same format regardless of which school you study at. They vary in length, from very short ones like the R/T exams, to the longest ones which last several hours. The number of exams each day varies throughout the week, but the number of exams each candidate sits will depend on how the schools split their modules. If you plan on being busy all day, Monday-Thursday of the exam week, you won't go wrong, although Oxford might be able to give you more accurate details of their specific module break-down.

The holder of a valid JAR-FCL CPL(A)/IR with
JAR-FCL ATPL Theory credit will be credited
the JAR-FCL ATPL(A) Theoretical knowledge
examination for a period of 7 years from the
last validity date of the IR(A) entered in the
CPL(A).

ATPLs-Time up!
Has anyone out there finished all their ATPL exams and then subsequently been unable to complete the CPL/IR within the 36 month time limit due to funds running dry, for example? Just wondering how many people are falling short due to this?

Hi all!
I found myself in a situation lets say regarding expiry dates. I did the old CAA ATPL Writtens and GFT. I then had a few home problems lets say and the last thing on my mind at that time was to send everything off to the CAA to get a licence issued, hence they expired
As a result to all this, and after lengthy conversations with the CAA this is the result.
The CAA Have advised me that as I have passed the UK National exams I will not be required to do an approved groundschool course. I will just have to get the groundschool to sign me off.
Most ground schools are very user friendly and will offer a brush up at a fraction of the cost, get you up to speed and sign you up for the exams.
As far as the flying is concerned, as I also have a FAA Commercial licence I will be exempt from the 25hr Approved flight training and again, do just enough to get me through.
If however you do not hold a current foreign licence then you will have to do the 25hr approved course.
If you have any problems with any schools etc, just quote the lasors section D1
