Mike,

I believe they have put a hold on the F. Scholarships as they are under review. I also believe the lot who are doing it this year are the last to do it until a recommendation is made.

Hope this helps,

Well done to those of you who have managed to get an RAF Flying Scholarship. I did mine back in 1986 and had a great time. Out of my course, 2 are at BM, 3 at BA, 1 is at VS and only 1 is in the RAF (which is probably why the scheme is being reviewed).

Good luck and enjoy this great opportunity to begin your flying careers!

HeY, well done!

I did my flying scholarship last summer - it was great - I did it at Manston, Kent - not far from where I live - any questions then I'll answer them!

I also got an RAF Sixth Form Scholarship in 99 - if u've got one and are going to Grantown - On - Spey for the leadership course then I'll answer any queries on that too.

Finally if u've got any thoughts on applying for a uni bursary - I recently had my boarding and was offered a RAF bursary to help me through uni, so I'll be glad to help you!

Well, you'll really enjoy the flying - I met lots of people - we all got on really well and keep in touch - meet up and relive the memories!!!! Put lots of effort in and you'll be rewarded! If you're anything like me, you'll look at the piccies you've taken every day and laugh about the good times!!!!

I'm carrying on with my PPL now - I've got 38hrs, should be finished by July, August - so it stands you in good stead for that too!!

"reviewing" or suspending in English is the latest idea from the RAF beancounters to save money.

They have decided that because the dividends of the Flying Scholarship are not immediately quantifiable, then they cannot justify their existence.

Never mind all the starts in any sort of aviation career that it has given people.

I did mine 4 years ago, had one of the best times in my life in doing so and at the end of it came out with a nice shiny brown licence.

I don't know about everyone else but I certainly wouldn't be able to have afforded it normally.

I'm just sorry for all the guys who are in the position that I was in.

If it helps anyone then the Air League also offer a 20 hour flying scholarship.

The selection (aptitudes and medical) are done at Cranditz just like the RAF ones.

I just hope the RAF aren't cutting off one of their last great lines of recruitment.

Rant over!

Thumbs up

If anyone out there is going to be doing their FS with Tayside at Perth then drop me an e-mail.

I did mine there last August, and it was fantastic!

Also, if by any chance MorePower is reading this, please drop me an e-mail because I have just completed my PPL you know where!

Cheers!

FJW.
