Dilema, another year in Africa or try UK

Hi Guys,

Need some help/feedback from the UK.

I'm a UK CPL/IR (FATPL) with just under 1000hours. I've been flying in Zambia with a charter operation doing mainly C206, but lately mostly BE55 stuff.

I've got the option to stay here and fly for any one of 3 companies, flying either Barons, Chieftains and Grand Caravans. So, great stuff !!!!........but my fiance is giving me grief and wants me to come home and find a job in UK.

So, here's the question:

What is the state of the market just now/next 6 months for someone with my experience ie 900hrs, one years commercial experience, current IR, MCC , Perf A etc.?

Don't bother mentioning Mac D's or BKing.

Cheers

JF

Things have begun to turn around, but it is happening very slowly. There might be a better chance by late spring/early summer. My advice would be to keep flying in Africa, but also keep sending in CVs to the European carriers (key word: UPDATES). If you can get away with not signing a one year contract or such, then I see no problem staying down there.
But I hear what you`re saying about the little lady.
Tough call.

Like Freak on The leash said, things are on the up but not full steam.
Check your PM though

As for dumping an existing job for a girlfriend, I have done it,been there and got the T-shirt (actually not anymore she took it back ). Jobs are always scarce even during good time (varies with experience of course) so remember how tough it has been for you to land that job. Ain't much easier with a 1000 hours I am afraid.

Good Luck !

Having been hunting for a flying job for the last twelve months and been to two Balpa Employment conferences, it does seem that the majors are starting to recruit, albeit slowly. Should Gulf War 2 begin then that will put a dampner on things for at least another 12 months. Having had so few replies to cv's (along with approx 1000 others chasing for the gold-dust opportunities) I would suggest staying in Africa for a bit longer (at least you are getting closer to 1500 and the chance for Direct Command ?).

For those who have flown or are flying in Africa (perhaps round the Game Reserves) any suggestions on operators and how to get in contact with them (Yeah, i know how to use the phone, net etc)
