Sponsorship schemes and ATPL credits. Do they mix??

Sponsorship schemes and ATPL credits. Do they mix??
Just read all about the Easy sponsorship. Just wondering would you be accepted onto these schemes with a PPL, low number of hours and some ATPL exam credits under your belt??
What if you completed all the ATPL ground subjects? Could you still enter this scheme or one similar?

One of my friends on a sponsorship scheme had about 150 hours, had done the Technical exams and was currently doing the Navs. He was accepted (But I think he had to show his results so far. If they had not been up to scratch I think they would have chopped him). He also had to attend all lectures and if my memory serves me correctly he might have done the exams again too. (Not sure about that latter bit. I can't remember whether we had mock exams or not. If we did, he certainly had to do those but not the CAA ones).
