Arrow international training school website?

Hey,

Two things have made me think recently:

1] After visiting the recent Flyer Professional Flight Training Show at LHR, I spent about a week looking through all the training bumf trying to separate a good flight school from one that just wants to make easy money from wannabes like myself. The nice shiny brochures were simply the hard copies of the corporate sell sell sell that the training captains and star students reiterated to me on the day.

2] Each time I log on to PPRuNe, the same threads appear under different user names. Which school is best? How much do they charge? What courses do they offer? Is it cheapest in the US/NZ/Canada/Africa etc. etc. etc.

As a zero hour pilot currently looking where to start, all of this information would be extremely useful, IF I could find it all in one place rather than spending hours searching through endless training web sites and searching for past PPRuNe threads. This is what I hope to do:

- Set up a web site (either standalone or as part of PPruNe if they want to get involved) to provide independent and objective opinions of flight schools around the world.

- Each report on a school will have the basic info. that I skip through all the corporate bumf to find (am I alone here) - i.e. courses offered, cost of course (conversions to £, $, etc.), entry requirements etc.

- Additionally, a report of the training facilities should be provided by a Ppruner who trained their. This should offer details of the quality of training (an "easy money" school or one that takes time to tailor the training in order to help the student progress to their goal - be it simply for a PPL or an ATPL), the actual cost of training (hidden charges etc.), and details of accommodation costs etc.

- If possible, details of a school's pass rate should be included.

- For overseas schools, info. should be provided of the compatibility of training with JAR requirements. What would the cost of conversion be? etc.

- A provision could be included for comparing one school against another - helping narrow down a very tough decision (for me anyway!).

(These are just my preliminary thoughts. I want to try an get the most relevant info. as if it were overly complex then it would be no better than reading all the brochures)

I know this would be a pretty big task, and I don't think I'd manage on my own. For a start, I am one of seemingly few people here without a background in IT, and don't have the first clue about web design! As a wannabe, I am also not very 'clued up' on training requirements/visas etc. Help on this would be most welcome. I know that there are some very knowledgeable Ppruners around (lukesytoddler, foghorn, scraggs, www, to name a few whose threads I read and opinions seem well thought out [don't get big headed guys, but there are a lot of people around who post just to point out spelling errors and take the ****]) and any info anyone can provide would be good.

Would anyone find this of any use or would I be wasting my time? does such a site exist and if so where?

Cheers,
Phil.
