Question Multi/IR renewal ... sim? ... A/C? ... or both?

Does anyone have any recent experience of renewing these ratings? I have wonderered about getting the multi renewal done and out of the way on a seneca (I have the sectors required) and then doing the I/R on a sim. However I would prefer something better than a Frasca 142!

The reasoning for this is that I am fairly happy about the 'twin' stuff but feeling vunerable on the IR stuff.

Any advice welcome

Thanx

JWF

To revalidate your IR on a 'sim' you must do it in an approved FNPT II or a real Flight Simulator. The Frascas you grew to know and love/hate during your training were not FNPT IIs. Although, on the face of it, the sim plus aircraft route looks cheapest, remember that you'll get tested twice on all of the asymmetric work.

I did my class rating and then went to the sim at Cranfield and got the renewal with 3 hours on the sim. Cost £500 which includes all the fees.. .Ideally it is best on the actual a/c but with the weather and costs of flying a twin it is a reasonably cheap way of staying current.

My advice would be to go to spain.. .Actual twin aircraft hourly rate in Spain is the same as FNPTII hourly rate in the UK;. .So you get to do everything in the aircraft so at the end it turns out cheaper.. .Of course only guys with JAR licence can do that.

There was a recent thread about this subject about two weeks ago, I think.

I know that CTC Aviation have begun hiring out their Kingair B200 FNPT II/MCC sim' for IR practice and renewals.

Follow this link for more info:

<a href="http://www.ctcaviation.com/kingairadvert.htm" target="_blank">www.ctcaviation.com/kingairadvert.htm</a>

The only thing is they are based in Southampton!

Hope this helps.
