Post Kiwi BA CEP applicant

After receiving the letter advising me to ring BA's recruitment office I learnt that I am to attend an interview in Aug.

I am from NZ and when I rung the delay was terrible. From what I understood they were willing to pay for half of my fare. Does this sound right? - remember, I am 12 time zones away.

Also

I currently have a PPL with 85hrs and I would like to carry on flying until Aug. Is this advisable.

I will probably ring them again to set things straight (when the delay is not so bad) but I would like to hear your comments anyway.

Are there any applicants from downunder (successful or not) who can share their experiences.

The reason that they have agreed to pay for half of you flight is because they pay for upto 200 pounds travel expenses for unemployed or student applicants.

Cool

Im a downunder and another associate sat the aptitudes with me same day. BA payed half the fight costs. No problem. Just make sure you have an actual Brit passport and NOT UK ancestry visa.

Also make the most of the trip and look around London. Work out for yourslef if you want to actually live in the Uk and not just want a shiny jet.

No didnt get in. Made final board but they didnt accept UK ancestry visa. Hence my tip.
Plenty of B&B's to stay at but you are looking at £20 a night ($60Aus).
I actually now live in UK so would be pleased to let you know how lifestyle compares.

Sure it was your visa? I heard that they found out you drink like a fish, and didn't want any more bad press!

Actually, drinking like a fish is a pre-requisite to getting the sponsorship. It would seem my apalling performance on the post aptitude drinking test may have let myself, and my country, down.

Hey girt bar
Nice too see a few more Kiwis actually going for the bird seed option.
I went through the whole malarky a few years ago and actually got through!.
As Max said make sure you do have that passport and my advice to you is to get in and moving as soon as poss.
Life in the Uk not a bed of roses but what are the airline options in godzone like?!!
( dont even try to mention sponsorship!!)
All the best of luck

MAX and Gordo.
I have no problems with regards to documentation. I have an Irish passport "tanks" to Dad.

Gordo, I know what you mean about NZ airlines. Things are improving down here but you still need a kagillion hours TT (preferably turbine). Any tips for the testing and interviews from an antipodean point of vew would be welcome.

Aptitude tests,co-ordination and instrument intrepretation tests on a computer, psyc tests, teamwork execises and two interviews.

Read up on 'verbal reasoning' tests-they can be tricky if youre not ready for em.
Arithmetic and psych tests are not a problem.
Nowadays they may also ask to compose a paragraph on contributing to the company's 'business focus'.
Be part of a team and not an individual in the team exercise. The result is not as important than as to how you all got there.
Read up on BA for the interview+relax be personable and be yourself!.
You may be asked if being so far from home would be a problem.
A family 'connection' in the UK (fictitous or not) would be good.
ps: off on a 8 day trip so won't be able to reply for awhile

Dont tell them you only want free training and a 737 so you can go back to Air New Zealand once your five years is up. They dont like that.
Tell them you are really looking forward to living in the UK and working for the 'Worlds Best', for the rest of your life, amen.

MAX.
Thanks mate but the thought had never crossed my mind. I would like the chance to live in the UK as I am starting to feel a little isolated down here. I also like BA's route structure so my allegiance would stay with them if they wanted me.

Question

I'm also a kiwi considering applying for BA CEP scheme.

If they'll pay for half your fare, will they let you apply to other airlines on the same trip?? I have friends in the UK who i'd love to see, but would BA see this as me getting a half price holiday??

any comments appreciated!

(i realise this could have been another thread, but it's all on the same line. . .)

Bit early for congratulations yet. I have only proceeded past the first of many hurdles. If you are eligible for a british passport go to BA's website and fill out the application form and wait for them to get back to you.

Dupre

I will be booking an open ticket so I can come back when I wish. I am sure that if you did the same you could stay over there for a while. However, I have recently read that they will pay for 50% of the fare but no more than 200pounds so in my case they will be covering 1/3 of my fare.
