Well you can either block out the windows with cardboard or whatever. Use "foggles" - like plastc safety glasses that are fogged over to only let you see the instrumetns or some other type of visual impairment.

Or use a 'hood' A hood is a bit like a welders visor without a window in it. Or like a piece of A3 paper held round your head on a piece of elastic. either hood or foggles makes it very difficult to look out through the windscreen for visual reference.

Both the above are valid but, I would just like to add that to do IMC in VFR for a non IMC pilot you need to have a saftey pilot as well for look out.
You will love doing ADF approaches with 20kts + cross wind during an inversion. Trying to do the holding pattern gives you only the indication for the level which will probably be above the inversion. But if you can do the ADF approaches your set!!
