Medicals Class 1 ETC
Dear All
Can you get a class 2 from your regular (sounds like burger king) doctor, or do you have to get it from somewhere else ?
If so where?
Should I get a Class 1 straight away for my future plans?
Awaiting response...

You can get your class two at any AME (Authorised Medical Examiner). That's not your ordinary GP unfortunately. Cost is about £150 for the initial, then £80-150 for each renewal depending on the doctor and what has to be done for renewal.
The class one is done initially at Aviation House, Gatwick and costs £400. Renewals can be done with some AMEs and cost £90-200, once again depending on the doctor and what needs to be done.
There's a database of AME's on the CAA website http://www.srg.caa.co.uk in the medical section.
cheers!
foggy.

Anybody aware what happens if you let you current class 1 expire? Do you have to do the full on initial test at £400 again, or can you defer a renewal by say a year.
I.e. if you have a class 2 also, and don't need the class 1 for the next year, can you save yourself a few £££, assuming you are confident that you are still class 1 fit in the lapse period?
