Question SEP rating renewal (FAA --> EASA)

Hi everyone,

I have a situation that I need some help with!

Back in the day I got my FAA license which shows: CPL SEP MEP IR.
Then I did a conversion to get my FAR.FCL (EASA) license which shows: CPL MEP IR

For work I normally only use my FAA license, however my company now asked me to make my EASA license valid again.
The cheapest way to do this is by getting my SEP RATING renewed.

Now here lies the problem, my JAR (EASA) license does not show that I have a SEP rating.

I contacted two schools, one close to me and one a lot further away from me.
The school closest to me says I need to do 6 hours of training to obtain my SEP rating since I never had it according to my paperwork.
After those 6 hours I can do my SEP rating exam. The other school requires only 2 hours of refresher training before I can do my SEP rating exam.

Which school is right and where can I find this in the regulations?

I prefer to proof the school close to me that I only need 'training as required' before I can do the SEP rating exam.

Anybody else ever had a similar situation?

Thanks for the help!

EASA or U.K.?

Either way, no big deal. To get the JAR/EASA back would be training as required based upon when you last used your ASEL, how much time total etc… Should be no big shakes. Usually 3 hours or so would be about right unless you’ve got two left feet!

However, depending upon circumstances, it may be just as easy to convert the AMEL and IR first. So many variables.

My license shows conform Part FCL (Belgium), so should be the regular EASA and not from the UK.

It has been 3 years since I flew a MEP and probably 7-8 years since I flew a SEP under my FAA license.

Got 3000+ TT, mostly on ME JET.

I am just curious why they never wrote down that I also have SEP on my JAR FCL license and only MEP.

So you are saying definitely not 6-7 hours of training, which is great but how can I prove this to the school? (Regulations?)

Thanks

Unfortunately it is up to the Head of Training to make that assessment and if he says 6-7 hours then that’s what you can expect from that school.

You are quite within your rights to select another ATO to assess…. And keep going until you get one you like.

Thanks for the feedback!

I was just hoping to find in the regulations where it says that the HOT can decide how many hours are required.
In that case I may have some room for negotiating, I am proficient flying so I should not need more than 2-3 hours to fly a SEP around VFR.

Cheers
