FAA Seaplane rating C172 or C182

Hi everyone.

Hope you all staying safe during these tough times.

Got a question.

Im looking into getting my seaplane rating but debating whether to do it in a 172 or 182 obviously big price difference I'm FAA commercial SEL with high performance endorsement.

So if I do the seaplane rating in the 172 I cant find anywhere in the FAR/AIM about whether or not my high performance endorsement allows me to fly a seaplane with a power planet greater than 200hp.

So can anyone shed some light on this please. if I still need to get checked out in a seaplane with a power plant greater than 200hp then might as well do the rating in the 182.

Thank you for your time and look forward to hearing from you guys.

Have a great weekend.

Regards

Clinton

You will be good to go with high performance seaplane, even if you use the 172. FAR 61.31(f) says "...….to act as pilot in command of a high-performance airplane (an airplane with an engine of more than 200hp)….."
This is a one-time logbook endorsement, not a rating on your pilot certificate, and is good for all high-performance airplanes, no matter what class (single, multi, land, sea).

Do it in the least expensive aircraft. There is no advantage in paying more for an identical rating. Have fun!
