Tayside or ACS?

Hi everybody,

I’m also looking at Tayside Aviation, I have recently moved up to scotland and I have my PPL which I did down south. I am about to finish my last exam sitting next month so I’m needing to look into options for the CPL, IR, MEP and MCC.

I went into Tayside the other day but I was disappointed with the place. I was told that if I was to do my IR then it would be in the Seneca, however I was told that this was good because if I learn in this I can fly anything... I was taken and shown the sim but that did not resemble a Seneca and I was told there is in fact no Seneca model but rather a piper seminal. I was told this was advantageous as during my career as a pilot I will need to switch between aircraft. I think they were possibly just employing “spin doctor” techniques with their sales pitch and got the uneasy feeling they were selling me a slightly duff product.

I have spoken to others I know who are in airlines already and the general consensus is that it is best to train in the DA42 (if you can) as this is most representative of the aircraft you will be going onto ie glass cockpit. I need to make a trip to ACS at Perth as I believe they fly the DA42 and have a sim which is the exact same as the aircraft. Does anybody have any experience with either school? Judging from the previous posts in this forum it may be a good idea to stay clear of tayside? My first impressions were honestly that it was a little Mickey Mouse with their set up. Anyone had any similar opinions?

All advice much appreciated
