As a former journalist can I just say that you've clearly got a talent for writing, as well as flying. Type that whole story up stick it in the post to Pilot, or some similar publication. Sure there are dozens of struggling wannabes out there, particularly those with families like myself, who would find such a story truly inspiring.

Well done Pete. I'm in the same shoes as you were. I'm awaiting my first line flight and I hope it's just as enjoyable as yours.
Unfortunately, mine is in a F50 and not a Jet.
However, since I've got the job, I'm not complaining.
I think my first flight will be in about 3 weeks time. I know the feeling!

Pete,
an excellent post, yet again. It's good to read how it feels to you guys on your first experience of flying a 'biggun'. It sounds very much like my own feelings after my first route on the old C130, but it was so long ago most of the Wannabes wouldn't believe I was ever a learner!
I also agree that you should think about consolidating your posts into an article - but can we have it before Pilot?!

an excellent post, yet again. It's good to read how it feels to you guys on your first experience of flying a 'biggun'. It sounds very much like my own feelings after my first route on the old C130, but it was so long ago most of the Wannabes wouldn't believe I was ever a learner!

Once again a great posting from you...
Have a few mates recently flown/flying with JMC to various destinations (eg. my brother flies back next week from Turkey) -So each time I like to speculate and mention the fact that you may be flown by 'Pilot Pete'
-I get the strangest looks :-)

btw...got my own little milestone coming this weekend... first solo *possibly*.

Been away for a couple of days trying to sort out the house (third time lucky), so thanks again for your replies.
Flandan, you flatter, English was never my best subject, Technical Drawing was (bloody lot of use that turned out to be!) It's an interesting idea, maybe I could mail you for some advice on how to precis it?

Feel free to e-mail me at [email protected] if you want any advice on the writing front, though from what I've seen so far, there's probably nothing I'd change. You've just told it like it is, plain, simple and honest, which is always the best approach.
You can also get a set of "notes for contributors" from Pilot (also available from their website, I think) which outlines how they like their copy presented. Well worth a bash.
One of these days I'll probably be writing my own story, living in a carboard box with a frozen ATPL, feeding own brand baked beans to my family!....

Well done PP. Just got a chance to read that now and it gave me such an excited feeling. You are soooooooo lucky to have had that experience. Sorry, but I don't know much about your story. Where did you do your training and what did you do before that? You are an inspiration to me - a young man who desperately whishes it didn't take so long to save up that kind of money!!! How did you do it?

Yes, very good report and very encouraging too - Maith an fear, a Pilot Pete! Definitely worth publishing too - what about in a weekend supplement section in a newspaper. That way Mr & Mrs Joe Public gets to find out a little what the passion of flying and aeroplanes are all about.

saggy - Your idea of all the posts being edited into one has been mentioned before so once the line training is finished I'll spent a 'wet weekend' doing just that and try to make it into a 'flowing' account of the whole thing from trial lesson to final line check. As for the newspapers, I'm not sure yet. Maybe once the edited version is done I'll see what the feedback is like and consider it then.
