Planning Ahead: Flying Advice | FlyEFT

Hey how’s it going, I’m looking for some advice on how I should go about doing my flight training if anyone wouldn’t mind giving some advice based on their experiences. I’ve already searched the forums on FlyEFT and read a great informative post about the PPL process. I would like to dig a bit deeper into the CPL/ME-IR side of things as well.

Currently I’m doing my PPL here in Ireland but the hourly rate is ridiculously high on a Cessna 152, so much that I am considering going to FlyEFT in Fort Pierce, Florida. I’m currently working for an airline and have close contact with FO’s and Captains who have all completed their training in Florida (some modular and some integrated) and they have all recommended the Florida route whether it be modular or integrated.

I have two main questions/worries;

1. Is FlyEFT a good flight school? I’ve been told to go their based on peoples experiences. They have very good prices for their modular courses and with the current exchange rate they are half the price of any integrated course I’ve seen. I’ve roughly calculated the cost of PPL/Hour building/CPL/ME-IR and it works out around the equivalent of 40000 euro. Add an MCC course in FTE on top and you get it all for give or take 50000 with accommodation and all the extras.
2. I have one good thing on my side and that’s age. I’m 21 years old and starting my final year in college in September studying a Transport degree. (decided to do a degree to fall back on in case the flying doesn’t go to plan). So my question is would I be better off doing my flight training over two years or so, going back and forth between Florida every 6 months or so? This route gives me the option of saving when I’m working and getting smaller credit union loans at a time in order to get each licence. It’s a longer process but I think it’s a smarter way to do it.
3. Or should I try and go integrated?

What do you guys who have done it think? Is there a better way I can approach this that I have missed? I’m looking for this information now as I’d like to start planning ahead as my final year in college is going to fly by with my thesis and whatever other work they decide to throw at us.

All advice welcome and much appreciated.

I did the PPL with EFT back in 2011.
Thought the place was decent enough. I started out in weston with skytrace (which is no more) but it was and still is mad money to fly out of there. Think alot of their instructors come from within having done the integrated course plus the FI qualification to get another 1000 hours or so in the book. Most of the guys seemed good when i was there.

I hit the books here for 3 months before i went over then did the exams and the flying over there. Hard work but you should be fine if you keep the head down and try your best.

I cant help but think your figures seem optimistic. Its been a while since i sat down and went over potential costs but remember eft often dont include any exam fees or any equipment on some of their courses. Also theres food and living, some transport costs and any extra tuition needed outside of the minimum flying hours. Plus you cant do an IR over in the states, that has to be done in Europe, which will add in some living and travel costs.

I do know a guy with Aer Arann (Air Stobart) that did alot of training in florida and did the FI rating in EFT. So even in this integrated/ cadetship world it is still possible.

Also by any chance are you doing DT028 in DIT?

Yes I am in the National Flight Centre in Weston, well was, until I decided it wasn’t economical to be paying so much for the hour when they’re are better offers in the likes of Florida etc with more reliable flying conditions. I’m going to do the PPL next June anyways so that gives me plenty of time to get the thesis out of the way and plan out each phase of training to hopefully be completed over 2, 2 ½ years all going well.

Yeah your right about the figures. My figures were based on the current packages they show on the website, so they were more of a rough estimation. Either way the figure is a more attractive figure than that of any integrated course for me anyways.

I think the guy you know, is the same guy I know who recommended FlyEFT . He seemed like he had a fantastic experience over there training hence why it’s my number one option at the moment.

Yeah I’m just going into my final year in September of the DT028 course, how could you tell? Haha

Cheers for the information,
