ATPL Distance Learning- changing ones job that funds this madness

I am currently in the middle of a ATPL distance learning course. Is there anyone out there who changed their day job while working towards a commercial licence. And how did this affect the course of obtaining a licence?

Note I know this area is not for job counselling so do not start giving off!

Many Thanks in Advance

I guess I could fall into the category you describe.
I was at uni. studying an IT based degree when I got approached to work full time in IT - 4 on 4 off - with only a year to go to degree.
I accepted and started the pos. before Sept. 11th but decided to continue with the training anyway instead of going back to uni.
Why did I leave? They offered me more dosh than an FO on most jets and more time off (they agreed to let me go for the CPL and IR and still have a job when I came back)
Was it a good decision? Very and I don't regret it, I can always return to uni if the flying job don't come up.
The 4 on 4 off scenario really helped with the ATPL's too, better that than studying while/after uni. The job change has entirely accelerated my flying training by a good few years no doubt(personally wouldn't like to be graduating this year and looking for an IT job, theres not a great number that pay well).
Basically I think I was/am fairly unique rgds the job, but I guess it depends entirely on your own situation!

I've changed job twice during my course.
The first was to a less cranial job and hence hopefully leave me with some energy at the end of the day to study. It delayed my study by a month, just on the pure basis of getting to grips with the new job and daily routine.
The second job I moved into was a lot more cranial and it delayed me a further two months.

Budgie and Cool_Hand

Cheers for the reply. The purpose for placing this thread was that I am a bit peed off with what I am currently doing, for the time being... a bit. And if that's the case it may get to the point were it may affect the distance learning course.

Again many thanks

FL395,

If its serious question the 02FO is a publication (From the website www.becomeanairlinepilotco.uk or something similar) that has been produced by a group of current airline pilots that helps you chart your career/training path.

Its basic function is to "spoon feed" you (Tongue in cheek) all the pitfallls and helps you avoid them and make an informed choice as to which schools, which styles of training etc...

Personally I think it saved me a lot of time and money and really helped me focus on what is important.

If it wasnt a serious question then please ignore!

Cheers

FL395,

No I am not who you think I am. I can think for myself, I just wanted other persons experiences of changing job while working towards a commerical licence. NOT A LECTURE.

The Lard Boy

Thanks for the reply and I will look up that O2FO.

P.S I did not start this to get into a slanging match.
