Help Please!
I'm new to this so please bare with me!
Wondering if anyone is able to help or offer any advice.
I have an assessment for OAA next week, have never been to any previous assessment days for flight training or done anything like this before so not really sure what to expect in terms of the exam situations.
Is anyone able to tell me for the maths and physics tests do you recieve some form of data sheet containing formula (can only think of school physics exams!) or am i expected to have memorised everything?
Any other advice from experience of this would be great!

My friend you could wear a clown suit, dribble out the side of your mouth, get a big purple crayon and write in your best 3-year-old scribble on the answer sheet "lolz I wanna be pilot I haz leet skillz" ... then show them your bank draft for £100,000 ... I reckon you'll pass

Look it up online or spend some money on books.
Anything which is done by the school itself carries at least a hint of conflict of interest.
Years ago I knew somebody personally who was completely socially retarded ( yes, I said the word) and he passed an assesment with a large school.
Keep in mind that being able to complete the training does not mean you will be succesful in this industry.
Being able to finish medical school doesn't make you a good doctor either.
*** By the way there are significantly cheaper options for your training, don't hang up your hat at the first big-name ***

If you like, I have the preparation material for FTE in Jerez tucked away somewhere, I can't see it being hugely different. PM me if you want me to dig it out and mail it to you.
As for content the FTE process was pretty much as G-RICH said, I'd say it was pitched around GCSE standard, but I don't recall having any formula sheets to hand.
If OAA is what you want, don't count on getting through the selection purely because you have the money available. 8 people were on my selection at FTE, 2 were given a flat no, 4 were told to come back and re-sit certain sections, and 2 of us were given an offer there and then. This is by no means saying there isn't an element of 'show us the money and you're in' by the way, just that they do still turn some candidates away.

I believe they were told to reapply in 2-3 months, no specific dates. My point is that they do still turn people away, so if its what you really want to do then don't just pay lip-service to the preparation. You may find yourself being delayed in place of someone who has prepared more thoroughly. This is also in no means advocating spending £80,000+ to get the licence, personally I couldn't justify the expense despite once being on the verge of signing such a contract.

And once you have spunked away £80k? on your Blue Book, you can then fork out £25k? on a bus rating and then you can line yourself up for the special one time only line training package, a snip at just another £44k/55k EUR.
£150k + 3yrs lost earnings in a proper job + 3yrs where you can't live at home.
You will even nearly break even with the 'salary' during your 2yr line training so its looking not too shabby

I stopped noting some time back the number of persons turning up for trial lessons who were adamant that flying was the only career for them then 1/2 hour later had a completely different take on things.
I recall one F-16 Flight Sim expert who couldn't wait to get in the air and (never having flown before) wanted to know if we could roll and loop the PA-28 and also pull it round a 90 degree banked turn on the stabilator. Fifteen minutes later, following a very mundane climb to cruise and five minutes of straight and level, said wannabbee fast jet jockey was desperate to get on the ground and I had to cut short the TL, much to the amusement of his family members in the back. I think big brother is still ripping the p*** out of him on that one.
Most people will settle into it after a few flights (including possibly the lad above) but that doesn't apply to all and some will never get over the odd (sometimes debilitating) sensations experienced by the body during flight.
The botom line is to make sure you are in the first group before you start spending any significant sums of cash - it may be cool and impressive to tell your friends that you are at some super-duper Integrated FTO learning to be an airline pilot but it's not so cool when they find out that you just squandered £40,000 on ATPL(A) theory and half a dozen flying lessons in the aircraft (assuming you get ANY refunds on course costs), after each of which you sat on your bed holding your head in your hands over a bucket.
Be careful - these big organisations with lots of snazzy kit are just that because they know how to make lots of money.........yours!

The biggest scaryest one was like a baby once the wheels were off the deck. Screamed like a 3 year old when we banked more than 10 degrees and any bumps you could smell the fear.
When we got on the ground one of the Police PPL's was in and gave them the eye and started chatting to them obviously they all knew each other extremely well.
The big scary bloke said to the Police "well if you want to pin anything on me you can just do the interview in one of them things I will admit anything to get on the ground again".
I do feel sorry for some kids though when there dad turns up with them and almost forces them to go fly. More than likely some rubbish about making a man out of them. Some of the Young ladys are nuts though. Had one that I had to stop doing bunts which scared the hell out of big brother in the back.
