FLY EASA Advice please ??

Hello everybody ,

I really need an advice .

im working as a cabin crew for one big airline for the past 3 years and now decided to go for my CPL after saving the amount of money that i wanted .

Been looking for schools all over the world for over a year finally was going to apply in FLYMIAMI but red some not good reviews about it , and now found out about FLYEASA and sounds like a very good school talking about instructors, prices etc .

Any one have studied or knows any one who been there ?
IF yes , do they have any extra hidden fees ?

I did my PPL with Euro American.

My honest advice - Do NOT go with them.

There are 1 or 2 nasty people there for a start. Perhaps this wouldn't be such a bad thing if these people were not the ones running the school, but they are.

The 2nd thing is, the school doesn't care about you very much, just your money. Customer service is really poor. There are a few hidden costs, even though they explicitly say there are none.

I did however meet some great people there who are now my friends. Most of the instructors are good too. They rotate rather quickly there so it's difficult to say if they are still good or not.

If you do go with them, you will get your CPL I'm sure, but whether or not you have a smile on your face in the process is another question.

I was at this school a year ago. Last month I popped round there again as I was doing some hour building with another school in Fort Lauderdale (BEST school ever by the way - SkyEagle Aviation Academy. Check them out. They are only FAA though for now). Anyway, I was even less impressed this time round - the airport is in a rather poor state - grass growing through all the taxiways and ramps, and it looks rather dirty.

I am not saying that it was an awful experience when I was there, but I would expect much better service on the customer front. I would like pilot training to be a great experience - but at EASA it was so-so at times. And the 1 or 2 people that I mentioned at the start, really annoy or depress you at times.

Pay a bit extra, go for a better school. In the end you are likely to spend around the same, as EASA has all sorts of stupid charges like a 5% convenience charge every time you use a credit card to pay and other crap.

that at least gave me an idea , but i heard they have changed the management
any idea how is it now ??

I think in any flight school they would only care about my money, I wont find a place that will really care about teaching etc , because for them i am a reassures of money .

you said the instructors were good ? well that is a very important thing dont you think ?

Its a bit of a marmite place to be honest although on here you can never be quite sure who is actually posting saying that they loved it. Always seems to be people with extremely low post counts.

Saying that though some people seem to have a good experence there is also a load that really don't have a good experence.

Some say that the folk that don't is because of lazyness or lack of talent or pissing it up to much in bar. and to be honest thats fair comment with some.

Realistically its a toss of a coin which way it will go for you. If you are lucky and get a good instructor, don't fall foul of a multitude of people everything lines up and no hitchs with wx or aircraft availabilty you get your exams out the way and keep your head down. It will do what it says and spit you out 3 weeks later with a PPL.

As for the change in managment they have had a series of changes but its still the same owner and most of the issues stem from him and the way he deals with people.

that is true , completely agree , its a toss i might be lucky and get a good instructors .

any recommendation for any school you have heard about ?
i have been looking for such a long time and when ever i found a school i read they are not good , or just taking my money .

Depends what you want to do.

If its a FAA ticket you need to see which ones can give you a visa to train.

To be honest any of the schools which have JAR or EASA in there marketing in the US are sausage factorys and best avoided.

You best bet is a mama and Papa school in the US but they won' be able to get you the visa.

Keep in mind that Europe-American Aviation is a great school in Naples/Florida and Euro American School of Aviation is the formerly known as Ormond Beach Aviation.

Why on Earth would you pick a JAA school in the US to get an FAA license to start with?

If you are wanting to do FAA steer well clear of all JAA schools in the US. I can tell you a brilliant FAA school in Florida - absolutely top class. Brilliant and friendly people and instructors who will care more about you than getting your money... no hidden fees either. So if you are interested in an FAA license, google "SkyEagel Aviation Academy". They are also known as "Horizon Flight Academy" in Fort Lauderdale. Recently changed their name and have a new website in development. They are quite small, and are completely focused on providing excellent training at an affordable price.

Anyway, if you want a JAA school, FLY EASA is not the best option. Yes you might get a good instructor... but the management will squeeze ever penny out of you. They have hidden costs and charges for everything. At the end you will leave with a PPL. I still don't regret going there, but only because I really wanted to fly in the US. If I didn't care which country to train in, I would definitely stick with Europe.

I am not sure you understood what I said.

Why do you need a JAA school (i.e FLY EASA) to do an FAA course? You can do a conversion there but no need to do the FAA stuff there - you will pay a lot more, and come out very unhappy with your experience most likely.

Go find a proper FAA school. Then do a conversion in EASA if you want, or better yet in a good school in Europe.

I am interested in going over to the states to do my PPL with SkyEagle aviation in Florida. Just wanted to know if anyone could share there experiences as i'd like to build up a picture of what they're like, I've heard really good!

Also are they part 61 or 141 approved?

Hey I've been there just over a month ago.

AWESOME place. The guys that run it are great. Top quality service. Not sure about the 61 or 141 thing. I think I've heard 141 being mentioned when I was there.

I don't think you will regret your decision though. I am convinced they are one of the top schools in FL if not the best. But bare in mind that they are quite small for now so don't expect some huge fancy lounges with huge LCDs everywhere etc etc... it's quite modest for now but they are all quality people down there.

I suggest you have a rental car though. The ramp where most of their aircraft are parked is a little distance from the actual school... you may need to drive.

if you are not american or no residence permit = no job?

My question is, after CPL is finished if you donīt have a resident permit I was informed that I had to leave the country and from (in this case Spain) ask for work permit, seems like a lot of barries... PLUS license conversion

Is is really worth getting your license abroad?

I dod my JAA PPL in eft in fort pierce in the summer of last year. Honestly i think they were excellent, Im from Ireland and was back within 5 weeks with a PPL license in my pocket. Instruction was brilliant, accomodation is great, price is very good and just very good atmosphere around the school, Its well worth a look at !

I have somehow read about the same points in other forums as well concerning EASA...
There are other JAA flight schools in Florida, but I have no idea if they're better or not. Have a look at them : Naples Air Center - European Flight Training
Has anyone had an experience with them ? How are the instructors/aircraft/management/hidden costs.... ?
