SEP rating (JAA ATPL) - current rate (Portugal or Farnborough)

Haven't held an SEP rating for more than 5 years.

Was wondering what is the current going rate for such a renewal?

If any specific recommendation on schools in Cascais or Farnborough that would be awesome!

Thanks gents

SEP class rating renewal

I thought that I once heard of SEP class rating being renewed in connection with doing a type rating re-validation (say on a Citation Jet). It doesn't really make that much sense to me, but could this possibly be right?

Thanks

No not unless things have changed radically.

From LASORS:

"The JAR-FCL Committee has agreed that the Proficiency
Check required to re-validate the stand alone PA 46 type
rating flown in a piston-engine variant, could also serve
to re-validate a Single-Engine Piston (SEP) Class Rating.
Also, as single-engine aeroplane Instrument Ratings (IR)
are not class or type specific, an IR re-validated on any
single engine aeroplane will be valid for use in a PA 46. By
combining the IR re-validation with the PA 46 re-validation
every year, a pilot could keep a SE IR, a PA 46 type rating
and a SEP (Land) class rating valid, all on the basis of
one combined flight test, providing that the examiner
conducting the test was authorised for the purpose of both
the PA 46 type rating and IR proficiency checks."

Never heard of the SEP having connections to a CJ though.

From EASA FCL 470.A

(b) Revalidation of single-pilot single-engine class ratings.

(1) Single-engine piston aeroplane class ratings and TMG ratings. For revalidation of single-pilot single-engine piston aeroplane class ratings or TMG class ratings the applicant shall:

(i) within the 3 months preceding the expiry date of the rating, pass a proficiency check in the relevant class in accordance with Appendix 9 to this Part with an examiner; or

(ii) within the 12 months preceding the expiry date of the rating, complete 12 hours of flight time in the relevant class, including:
– 6 hours as PIC;
– 12 take-offs and 12 landings; and
– a training flight of at least 1 hour with a flight instructor (FI) or a class rating instructor (CRI). Applicants shall be exempted from this flight if they have passed a class or type rating proficiency check or skill test in any other class or type of aeroplane.

(2) When applicants hold both a single-engine piston aeroplane-land class rating and a TMG rating, they may complete the requirements of (1) in either class, and achieve revalidation of both ratings.

(3) Single-pilot single-engine turbo-prop aeroplanes. For revalidation of single engine turbo-prop class ratings applicants shall pass a proficiency check on the relevant class in accordance with Appendix 9 to Part-FCL with an examiner, within the 3 months preceding the expiry date of the rating.
So it appears that yes, a TRPC in a Citation would count instead of the 1 hour flight with an instructor in an SEP. But it doesn't get anybody off the hook to have the hours on type, and if they don't, they will have to revalidate by test in an SEP.
