Does anybody know a good software to use at home to brush up /practice IR before going to the flying school and start renewing the IR.?

Have a look at OnTop, sold by ASA.

Seconded, but I did find IP7 (by the same company) cheaper and easier to use - fewer options to get excited and distracted by!

Never Get Lost (Wilhelm Thaller) is an excellent book and puts an interesting twist on the conventional air maths, when you get around the translation. Don't bother with the NGL software, however, RANT covers it better.
